Fan favorite actor Cameron Mathison and his family have spent the past year navigating heartbreak and grief. Just over a year ago, the family’s beloved California home was completely destroyed in the Eaton wildfire.
The actor currently plays Drew Cain on “General Hospital,” and previously starred in Hallmark’s “Hannah Swensen Mysteries” movies. He also has done several projects for Great American Family, including “Another Sweet Christmas.”
Mathison recently opened up to “Good Morning America” about how his family is doing one year after losing their home. The experience has been truly devastating to them, but they have worked hard to focus on resilience for themselves and their community.
What Mathison had to say about how he and his family have come through the experience inspired fans.
Cameron Mathison’s Children Have Taken the Loss Quite Hard
Mathison reflected on the difficulty of the loss and acknowledged that it has been the hardest on his two kids. Mathison shares Lucas, 22, and Leila, 19, with his ex-wife, Vanessa Mathison.
The actor opened up about how both of his kids have leaned into their creativity to help them process the devastating loss. Mathison noted that both Lucas and Leila currently attend college in Europe.
“They’re both utilizing their pain and their struggles in their own respective degrees,” he shared.
Lucas is pursuing fashion design, and his first major design was inspired by the fire and loss. Mathison explained that his son was “Basically using the loss of his childhood home and the iron and the twistedness and all of the things in between” in his design. He noted that a publication in London even wrote a piece on the inspired and unique design.
Leila is focusing on psychology and writing courses, and Mathison shared that she used those classes to work through her pain and grief, as well.
“I think I could take some notes from them,” Mathison admitted of how his kids have worked through their heartbreak.
As a whole, in looking back at the past year, Mathison noted, “It really, truly has been a year of pain and loss, but also learning and growth and coming together like I could have never imagined.
Mathison’s Fans & Colleagues Praise His Strength Amid the Loss
The Instagram post shared by “Good Morning America” featuring Mathison’s interview received a flood of supportive comments. Everybody has been impressed by Mathison’s spirit throughout the difficult ordeal.
“God bless him so selfless and worried about everyone else more than himself! Always loved him,” one Instagram user wrote.
Mathison’s “General Hospital” co-star Nancy Grahn commented, “I work with this dude every day. Cam is a true gent and an enlightened spirit. Boys, take notes.”
Someone admitted they dislike Mathison’s character on “General Hospital,” but acknowledged that means he’s a great actor. They shared, “I hope he and his family find peace through this tragedy.”
“Cameron and his family are such an amazing example of human strength in light of it all,” someone else noted.




Feel so bad for him and his Family. Does not matter how much money one has but it certainly can make things easier. However, hate him on General Hospital and wish they would end his storyline! LOL!
