Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe Has Been Open About Wearing Wigs & Experimenting With Makeup Throughout Cancer Treatment

Lowe debuted her new look days after posting a makeup tutorial for other cancer patients who’ve lost their eyebrows and eyelashes from chemotherapy. Since losing her hair in the fall of 2025, as she began chemo for stage three breast cancer, she has been open with fans about wearing wigs and finding tricks for feeling beautiful throughout treatment.

In her video, she noted that her hair is slowly growing back and that she wears eyelash extensions, and also shared how she uses an eyebrow pencil to fill in gaps.

In October, the “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” star bravely shared how hard it was to start losing her hair, sharing a video of herself having her head shaved and sharing on social media, ““Waking up to clumps of hair falling out was traumatic,” Lowe captioned her video. “Hiding it was the worst! But doing this… this made me feel like I was in the drivers (seat). Sharing my head with you all…..scary but I really want anyone who’s going through this to see that I’m ok.”

Lowe announced on October 10 that she’d been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer and would undergo chemo, a double mastectomy, radiation, and reconstruction surgeries. She is almost done with radiation, sharing with fans that she only has a couple of sessions remaining.

Though she attempted to save her hair using a cold cap, she shared on social media that she started the process after chemo began, so she wasn’t sure if it would work, and one of the types of chemotherapy she received — Doxorubicin — is particularly toxic with potentially harsh side effects, per the Moffitt Cancer Center.

According to Living Beyond Breast Cancer, Doxorubicin is known for causing “significant” hair loss from head to toe, which tends to start two to four weeks after chemo infusions begin.
