For most actors, the character they play in a TV show or movie is simply that, a character. Hallmark Channel star Robert Buckley has played many roles, but he’s not a zombie like his “iZombie” character. Nor is he a famous author, like Graham Sterling in “Blind Date Book Club.”
But there is one of his characters he’d love to play in real life. Like his character in the upcoming “Merry Christmas, Ted Cooper!” Buckly has always dreamed of being a meteorologist.
Hallmark MediaRobert Buckley Admits That He ‘Desperately Wanted to Be a Weatherman’
“Of all the things I’ve done as an actor, I’ve just desperately wanted to be a weatherman,” Buckley admitted to KATU. “I like it, it’s a sexy job, it’s a mystery. And let’s be honest, phones can do the job, and we still have meteorologists. So, clearly the people love it.”
“And I just thought, you know what, if this is going to be my chance, I’m going to write myself the role,” the “Chesapeake Shores” star added.
Robert Buckley’s Forecast Includes ‘Tanning Situations’ and ‘Good Luck’ Zones
When host Helen Raptis asked if he’d like to try out being a meteorologist, he jumped at the chance. “I thought you’d never ask,” he told her.
As he stands in front of the weather board, he immediately begins making things up. A highlighted area of Boise means “a lot of good luck coming your way.”
When he points out the coast, he says, “Good news, you’re near the water. Your real estate is probably more expensive than the folks who are more landlocked.”
As he moved to the 7 Day Forecast, he referred to it as “all right” and “Still all right” on days with a sun symbol. As for the rainy days, those were called “An indoor tanning situation.”
Many of his friends and coworkers took to the comments, expressing delight with his ‘skills.’
“Maybe my favorite performance of my [ “The Christmas House“] and Handsome Justice sequel son, ever!” Fellow Hallmark star Sharon Lawrence wrote.
Ted Cooper is an Optimistic Meteorologist Who Can’t Catch a Break
In “Merry Christmas, Ted Cooper!” Buckley plays Ted Cooper, a cheerful meteorologist who doesn’t let anything break his positivity. Buckley didn’t realize how much he had in common with Ted until filming began. “People on set were like, ‘This is you, you’re Ted Cooper,'” he said. “I kind of realized, ‘Oh yeah.’ Because I am by nature kind of a golden retriever.”
Despite having to go to the ER after a Christmas-related accident, Ted remains optimistic that this holiday will be the one to break his bad luck streak. “I like seeing bad things happen to positive people,” the “One Tree Hill” star admitted. “It’s funny.”
“He’s had a comedically bad run of Christmases, and he’s just decided, ‘No, I’m gonna will it,” Buckley said. “This one’s going to be great, no matter what.’ And, of course, the universe is like, ‘Hold my beer.'”
Hallmark“Merry Christmas, Ted Cooper!” premieres on the Hallmark Channel on Saturday, October 25 at 8:00 p.m. ET/ 7:00 p.m. CT.
