Jodie Sweetin Reveals If She & Candace Cameron Bure Are Still Close

Fans of “Full House” love Jodie Sweetin and Candace Cameron Bure and have always thought of them as best friends with a sibling-like relationship in real life. The two stars, both of whom competed on “Dancing with the Stars” (Bure first on Season 18 and Sweetin in Season 22), spent years working alongside each other and appeared to develop a close friendship, but are they still so close now?

Jodie Sweetin Discusses Her Relationship with Candace Cameron Bure

In an interview on “Only Child with Bob the Drag Queen,” Sweetin, who played the role of Stephanie Tanner on “Full House,” was asked about her relationship with her onscreen sisters, played by Bure, and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. Of the former Hallmark star, she said, “Candace does her thing.”

Sweetin’s comments suggest they have drifted apart because of their differing views. “You know, we sit on very opposite sides of things, and I’m just kind of a loud, outspoken (expletive) about a lot of things, and that’s not going to stop me. And if that ain’t you, that ain’t you,” she said.

Sweetin was also asked about her relationship with the Olsen twins, who, in later years, have distanced themselves from “Full House,” choosing not to appear in its sequel, “Fuller House.” They also don’t typically attend cast reunions or events and prefer to live their lives away from media attention. Sweetin revealed how close they were as children.

“They would come to my house for the weekends. I took Mary-Kate and Ashley horseback riding for the first time, and now Mary Kate owns horses and stuff. I mean, we would go to Disneyland together,” she said. “They would spend weekends with my parents, at the house. We were really, really close. And I wish nothing but the best for them, but I can’t imagine like all the (expletive) that they’ve had to deal with over the years.”

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen were big stars in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and Sweetin was happy for their success. But she also does not envy the intense media attention and the pressure that came with it, which the Olsen twins had to navigate from a young age. “I saw how hard they were worked in order to pull all that off and I didn’t envy it at all,” she said. “I always actually felt really bad that they were… that they had to do all of that, ’cause they really lost out on having like a childhood.”

After Bob Saget died on January 9, 2022, Sweetin says that it was the first time she had seen Mary Kate and Ashley in years. She said it was “the first time we’d all really been together and seen each other in years. Because they were in New York and like in Europe.”
