Jonathan Bennett Teases True Crime Twist on ‘Halloween Wars’

We know that Halloween is getting closer when we begin to check the premiere date for “Halloween Wars,” and this year is no different. After 2023 saw the return of pumpkin carving and Hallmark star Jonathan Bennett as host, the show’s popularity began to rise again to its previous levels. Bennett, who can also be seen alongside Tyler Hynes and B.J. Britt this fall in “The Groomsmen,” agreed that it’s become “one of the hottest shows on Food Network.”

“Every year I say that our contestants can’t outdo, out-create the last season,” he told KCAL News. “And every single season, they come in and they deliver.”

This season also adds a special episode that will definitely pique the interest of true crime enthusiasts tuning in.

After giving kudos to the pumpkin carvers, whom “Finding Mr. Christmas” said have the ability to “create pumpkins like you have never seen in your entire life,” Bennett revealed some details about the upcoming season.

“What I love is that, keeping up with the times, ‘Halloween Wars’ is always evolving,” he told KCAL. “This year, we have an episode called “GSI” — Ghost Scene Investigators. Because I love a true crime moment, if there is true crime, I will watch it.”

“So we have found a way to take, you know, what’s popular and happening in the world of pop culture, and blend it into our show,” he continued. “To make sure — even after 15 seasons — we’re still at the top, and we’re still the show everyone wants to watch.”

Bennett also admitted that he finds it impossible to avoid the delicious sweets that are made during the season. Instead, he found a rather unconventional solution to the inevitable weight fluctuation.

“I joke that I have a size 32 waist jean, and then I have a size 34 waist jean for the end of the season,” he said. “Because at the beginning of the season, I do not weigh the same at the end of the season. Because their food is so good that I can’t not eat all the treats. I have to eat them all.”

“You’re smelling the caramel in the air all day long,” Bennett continued. “When you’re on the set of “Halloween Wars,” it’s just got that aroma of sugar melting and cooking, and it just smells so good.

“And then after work, I go and get a steak,” he added. “Because I’ve had so much sugar that it’s like, I need red meat.”

Get Ready for a Spooktacular Family Night

Season 15 of “Halloween Wars” will premiere on Sunday, September 21, at 8 p.m. CT/ 9 p.m. ET. Bennett will host alongside judges Shinmin Li and Aarti Sequeira.

He believes anyone who loves Halloween will be inspired by “Halloween Wars.” He also thinks that, for those with kids, it’s the perfect show to watch together.

“I love how much kids love watching this show,” Bennett said. “So if you’re a family, and you’re looking for something to watch over the Halloween season, this is the show for you, because there is so much fun, and spooky, and silly combined with cake, sugar, and pumpkin.”
