Marcia Gay Harden makes aging look easy!
The Hallmark Hall of Fame actress shared a radiant photo roundup of makeup-free selfies to celebrate her 67th birthday on Friday, August 14.
Harden posed for her bare-faced photos dockside during a relaxing weekend on the lake in New York at what she called her “happy place.”
The “In from the Night” actress captioned her Instagram post with a thoughtful message on aging, calling it a “beautiful blessing” to be surrounded by love as she thrives into her fourth decade in her acting career.

“Back at my happy place in New York! Celebrating a fabulous birthday, buffered by so many beautiful wishes from friends and family. Long-term friendships. New acquaintances that feel like longtime friends, friends children who are now my friends. What a beautiful blessing it is to be surrounded by so much love,” Harden wrote.
“Thank you thank you everyone!” she continued. And the best thing about aging is, all of these relationships just get deeper! You edit what doesn’t work, and you save the people who make you a better person. Thank you my friends and family for making me better!”
Harden, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the 2000 biographical film “Pollock,” recently opened up in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal about embracing life in her golden years.
“Now, it’s about me,” she said. “I’m the one who looks down the road at the next 10 or 20 years and figures out what I want to do, which is about 10,000 new things.”
“I don’t have a problem with aging. In fact, I embrace it. … Whatever brings you joy,” Harden added. “Especially now, I want to follow the joy. It’s very easy to pay attention to the things that are not perfect. Why not focus on what’s really great about your life? It’s a different mindset. … The things that bring me joy right now: my work, my kids, Korean skin care masks! I love where I am with aging because I’m still learning new things that bring the joy.”
Harden also emphasized the value of wisdom, noting that as she gets older, she’s learned how to utilize her strengths for not only herself — but others.
“I think as you age, many aspects are the same or better. I can catch my patterns better. I catch other people’s patterns now. I’m not on a high altar, but I can say, ‘Oh, that’s not so good, but this other thing is fantastic,’” she explained. “Are you wiser as you age? It’s actually true, but only if you use that life experience to enrich yourself. For instance, I broke my patterns to be the best single mother I could be and the best loving mother. That’s the best use of all this wisdom.”

While Harden has portrayed many different characters in film, including roles in “Mystic River,” “The First Wives Club,” “Parkland,” the “Fifty Shades of Grey” franchise, and more, her most recent role is portraying Elizabeth Gable in the Apple TV hit “Margo’s Got Money Troubles.”
The comedy drama, also starring Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer, is described by Apple TV as “The daughter of a former Hooters waitress and an ex-pro wrestler, Margo is a recent college dropout and aspiring writer. Faced with a new baby, mounting pile of bills, and dwindling number of ways to pay them, Margo must find a way forward.”
Harden’s character in the critically acclaimed series is described as a fiercely protective mother of Mark Gable, whose intimate relationship with Margo caused a tailspin of unexpected adventures.
In her June interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Harden spoke about the purpose of motherhood and her portrayal of it in “Margo’s Got Money Troubles,” telling the outlet, “The motherhood we’re presenting here is basically called love: Love at the family table. Love of your children. Love of your life. Loving what’s hard to love.”
“Margo’s Got Money Troubles,” which received eight nominations at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, was renewed for season 2 ahead of the season 1 finale in May. A premiere date for the upcoming season has not yet been announced.
