Beloved Hallmark star Melissa Gilbert is stepping back into her role as Chief Creative Officer at her lifestyle brand Modern Prairie. The actress took a break to focus on her husband Timothy Busfield’s legal issues, but she’s back now with a powerful message.

The official Instagram for Modern Prairie posted a video of Gilbert speaking candidly about her time away and her return to the lifestyle brand.
“I wanted to take a moment to speak to you directly. As many of you know, I stepped away for a little while to focus on my family. It was time I needed, time to be present, to tend to what matters most, and to gather my strength in a season that has not been easy. Family is everything to me, and during this incredibly difficult time, I leaned into that truth fully. But something else carried me too. You did,” she began her message.
The “When Calls the Heart” star gushed over the team at Modern Prairie, who kept things running smoothly while focused on her family. She mentioned the creativity behind the team putting on events and having conversations that women in the community need, while also keeping the integrity of the brand.
Gilbert then addressed the women in the Modern Prairie community who show up daily for each other and for her. The actress had kind words for them and also made a passionate promise.
“To the women in this community who show up every single day, not just for me, but for one another, that is what Modern Prairie is. Women supporting women, not just when it’s easy, and especially when it’s hard,” Gilbert stated.
She explained that her returning to work at her lifestyle brand doesn’t change her commitment to her family during this challenging time. Gilbert went on to reveal why this was the right time for her to get back to work.
“It is important for me to step back into this work. It strengthens my mindset. It gives me purpose. It reminds me of who I am beyond hard days—this time away reminded me why we built this space in the first place. It’s more than products. It’s more than events. It’s more than a brand. It’s a lifeline. It’s a connection. Its strength is shared across kitchens and living rooms, hospital rooms, and long phone calls. It’s dignity, it’s compassion, it’s resolve. And I am so proud to walk forward with you. So, let’s get back at it together,” the actress expressed.
The social media post also included a caption from Modern Prairie sharing news of Gilbert’s return and also reiterating what the brand is all about. Modern Prairie is a women-supporting-women community focused on creativity and events.
