Ben Napier Shares ‘Big Announcement’ About Home School
In addition to their HGTV success, it looks like Ben is an accomplished school principal and Erin is an award-winning teacher at their home school!
On June 4, Ben took to Instagram to share the thrill of a job-well-done with homeschooling their daughters, Helen and Mae.
“Big announcement out of our little homeschool!!” he wrote in the caption.
“Summer break is here, but as principal of our little school, I am proud to announce that our teacher of the year is Mrs. @erinapier,” Ben added. “Be sure to congratulate her if you see her in the teachers’ lounge.”
Fans loved Ben’s cheeky post, which featured a few photos from their homeschool.
“Congrats Erin … probably the best award, second only to the title of ‘Mom,'” one fan commented.
Another fan wrote, “WOOOHOOO! Congratulations on finishing homeschool, now time to enjoy summer the best way you can!!”
Other fans shared, “Lol, this is the BEST ๐๐,” “Congratulations Mrs. Napier ๐๐โญ๏ธ,” and “Congrats! Let the summer begin.”
Erin Napier Celebrates End of School Year: ‘Somehow, We Did It!’
On May 20, Erin took to Instagram to celebrate their successful year, with photos showing some of the lessons and assignments their girls completed in homeschool.
“Somehow, we did it! 2nd grade / k-4 are โ ,” she wrote in the caption.
Erin continued, “This is what I want you parents who think you’d like to homeschool but you’re afraid you can’t: if you can find 2 hours a day and ‘open and go’ curriculums, you can do it.”
“These girls are so happy, so good at communicating with all ages and types of people,” she noted. “And we feel like we soaked up every moment of growing up they did, instead of feeling shocked by it each passing week.”
The HGTV star added, “We found the hack to slowing down childhood. It’s not for everyone, but it was medicine for our whole family this year.”
On April 19, Erin shared a video on Instagram that showed their “day in the life” at homeschool. She admitted in text over the video: “Some people think homeschooling is weird. I did too when I was young.”
“Around the time Helen was born, we met some homeschoolers who were so remarkable, so mature, so communicative, and interested in learning, it made us realize we wanted whatever that was,” Erin added.
She also shared an extensive overview of how their homeschool operates, with Ben “teaching history, Bible and math” and Erin handling “phonics and simple arithmetic” with Mae.
“Then we switch, and I teach Helen language arts (grammar, spelling, poetry, cursive), etiquette (I’m learning some things alongside her best of all!), art and science,” the HGTV star explained. “We do classic literature read alouds (we only have time for 1 chapter a day), with narration afterward where Helen tells us everything that happened first, then next, then last. We ask her a lot of questions that require logic to answer.”
As for the social aspect of homeschooling, she explained that the girls are involved in group extracurriculars or sports and “see 12-20 of their friends for about an hour every day.”
“We hope to do this for as long as it serves the girls, and someday send them to high school,” Erin shared. “It has been the best season of our life as a family that I thank God for every night.”
