Erin Napier Gives Update on Hero Dog Who Saved Homeowner
On May 3, the season finale of “Home Town” featured a homeowner who lost part of his loft in a fire. Thankfully, his hero dog alerted him to the fire and the two escaped safely.
On May 3, HGTV shared a clip from the season finale of “Home Town” on Instagram.
“The goodest boy indeed 🥹,” the caption noted. “On tonight’s #HGTVHomeTown, Erin & Ben reunite with an old client after a devastating fire.”
“I was awakened by Zeus, like hovering over me on the couch, just barking in my face, ears pinned back,” the homeowner recalled. “He’d never done before.”
Zeus was able to get the man up, who said he thought it was daylight outside, but it was really the massive fire lighting up the night.
“Thankfully, two to three fire departments showed up and I had 30 strapping guys running through here with hoses, just flooding everything to put the fire out,” the homeowner explained.
He added, “And I’m so thankful for that. I just like to think, pretty much, because of him, the block’s still here. It didn’t burn up. The neighbor’s fine.”
Napier praised the dog, telling him, “Good job, Zeus. He’s the goodest boy.”
The homeowner got choked up, saying, “He’s my guy. Yeah, he’s the dude.”
Fans lit up the comments section, with one noting, “This dog is a saint sent to earth to help.”
“This gives me shivers. So glad you are both safe,” another fan wrote. “Our dogs are our guardian angels.”
In her Instagram Stories, Napier shared a post from the Laurel Main Street Instagram account about the episode. She also provided a sad update about the sweet dog.
Napier wrote, “Zeus passed away a few months ago, so this was an extra special one.”
The Laurel Main Street post’s caption noted, “The unexpected happens. But, if you’re lucky, the right people show up to help you rebuild.”
“That’s the story at the heart of tonight’s ‘Home Town,’ and it belongs to someone who has given so much to Downtown Laurel. Architect Michael McKinnon — a former Laurel Main Street board member and one of our most beloved downtown figures — lost the upper floor of his loft to an electrical fire,” the caption noted. “And when the time came to rebuild, Ben and Erin were there.”
The episode’s renovation included “a modern kitchen, entertainment room, and guest suite, all thoughtfully designed in a style new for Erin and perfectly suited to Michael’s remarkable home.”
The Laurel Main Street post shared, “We are so proud of Michael, so grateful to the ‘Home Town’ team, and so lucky to call this our downtown.”

The caption explained, “Ben and Erin join their closest friends — Jim and Mallorie Rasberry and Josh and Emily Nowell — as they pour everything they have into transforming a historic 1930s department store into what would become the Heirloom Hotel.”
“The vision is breathtaking. The effort is extraordinary. And the love for this town that drives every decision is unmistakable,” the account shared. “Tune in and watch something beautiful be built. This community knows how much that building meant — and how much it still does.”
