Jasmine Roth is reflecting on the big move her family made from California to Utah a year and a half ago. The HGTV star asked, “Was it worth it?” as she shared how they adjusted to their new home.
Jasmine Roth Reflects on Moving to Utah
On March 2, Roth took to Instagram to give a life update about the family’s move to Utah.
“This move kicked our butts for a while, but I can honestly say we’ve changed for the better,” she wrote in the caption.
On the first image of her family bundled up and smiling for the camera, the text notes, “Was it worth it!?! My thoughts on our move to Utah.”
Roth shared, “So first a little backstory. We moved to Park City, UT full-time 1.5 years ago. We lived for the previous 15 years in Huntington Beach, CA. We’ve had a vacation home here since 2015, got married here in 2013, and my husband has been snowboarding here since he was a kid.”
She continued, “So it’s not like we just picked up and moved, but at the same time, we basically just made a decision one day and moved. We didn’t have a super solid reason and when asked ‘why’ I give a different answer each time.”
“Sometimes I say we like snowboarding (true!), sometimes I say we wanted a slower pace (also true!), and usually I just shrug and say ‘why not?'” the HGTV star noted.
Moving amid big family changes made things especially challenging. “But year, it’s been a CHANGE and at times it’s been really hard,” Roth admitted.
She added, “If you haven’t done it lately — moving is no joke! Add a preemie newborn and our careers on top of that and yeah, it’s been challenging.”
“But I can also honestly say that we’ve also grown so much. Obviously the kids have literally grown, but Brett and I have changed too,” the “Help! I Wrecked My House” star explained. “I’m not sure if we both sorta knew it was time for the next phase or what, but we’ve transformed. A lot can change in 1.5 years and it has!”
The couple is balancing working full-time with parenting, which also presents challenges.
“When I first went back to work full-time (and even before that) it was often overwhelming,” Roth shared. “The switch from 1 to 2 kids means you’re literally giving double the energy towards being parents and that took some time to get used to.”
She also noted the shift from having plans with a large group of friends and family to having more quality family time. “It took some getting used to but I also think it’s part of ‘growing up’ and now I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Roth wrote.
They’ve also enjoyed exploring their new town.
Roth noted, “Another thing that made our move successful is remembering to be tourists in our own town. For years we’ve loved visiting here and we wanted to make sure to not lose that magic once we lived here full time. So a horse drawn sleigh ride up the mountain to a fireside dinner?! Yes please!”
She circled back with an answer to her initial question. “So all that to say, YES the move was worth it. Not easy, but we are settling in and building happiness one day at a time,” Roth added.
Fans Share Words of Support for Roth
Roth’s fans flooded the comments section to share kind words about Roth’s big family move.
“I think you made a fantastic decision!! I do prefer the weather in California but not the traffic,” one fan wrote. “I truly think raising your girls in a state like Utah is so much better for them in a lot of different ways! You have done such a great job and to be honest I really love to see the work you do in Utah! So it’s a win for sure!!”
Another fan noted, “If you’re happy and settled then the move was worth it.”
“Home is where you are,” one fan noted.
In response to the question, “Would you like to go back?” Roth shared, “We like to go back and visit often since we have family and friends there, but we’re really happy in Utah!”

Wow! Tough life. Boo hoo.
