Usually, when HGTV launches a new series, there’s lots of fanfare around the premiere including press releases, promos, and social media posts. But a new series with longtime HGTV star Mike Holmes and his family is about to premiere with almost no warning.
The beloved Canadian contractor and his grown kids — Mike Holmes Jr. and Sherry Holmes — announced in their own social media posts that “Holmes on Homes: Building a Legacy” will make its U.S. premiere on October 7, 2025.
In a post on October 6, Holmes wrote, “Happy to announce that my new series Holmes on Homes: Building A Legacy premieres tomorrow on HGTV US. I hope you love the episodes as much as we loved filming them.”

In the caption of his post, Holmes also wrote that the new series, which has already aired in Canada, “is all about the future — sharing the knowledge I’ve gained over four decades with a new generation of skilled tradespeople — my own kids @sherryholmes @mikeholmesjr.”
HGTV finally announced the show on the morning of its premiere, posting a preview video on social media.
The new video features footage of Holmes and his kids fixing and renovating homes while he says, “I’ve loved construction my whole life. And the great thing is I’ve built a construction business to ‘make it right’ for hundreds of homeowners over the years.”
“I’ve taught my kids, Michael and Sherry, that each project is more than just a renovation,” he continues. “We’re a family helping other families. That’s what building a legacy means to me.”
Mike Holmes Returned to HGTV in June After a Two-Year Absence
HGTVAfter a two-year absence, the Holmes trio returned to HGTV over the summer, premiering the third season of “Holmes Family Rescue” on June 4. They teamed up during the eight-episode season, determined to “make it right” — Mike’s trademark slogan — “for homeowners who have fallen victim to careless or dishonest contractors.”
Holmes has starred in a variety of TV shows in the U.S. and Canada, starting with the 2003 premiere of “Holmes on Holmes” on HGTV Canada. He brought his adult kids on board for HGTV’s “Holmes Family Rescue,” which premiered in December 2021.
In a press release at the time, Holmes said, “I’m so fortunate to have built a team with my son Michael, who can build anything, and my daughter Sherry, who is very passionate about helping people and has a great eye for design. We’re a family business that’s in the business of helping families—and that feels good.”
“Holmes on Homes: Building a Legacy” premieres on October 7 at 9 p.m. Eastern time.
