The stars of “Renovation Aloha,” Tristyn and Kamohai Kalama, are giving fans an update after Hurricane Lowell caused damage across Hawaii. The HGTV couple said they “got lucky” and are safe, while urging fans to continue praying for those impacted by the storm.
Tristyn & Kamohai Kalama Give Update Following Hurricane Lowell
On September 8, Tristyn and Kamohai took to their Instagram Stories to share an update after Hurricane Lowell.
“Aloha all! We are safe and all good over here, mahalo for all the messages,” they wrote.
The HGTV stars continued, “School is cancelled as well as all city and state offices. Many areas on Oahu were damaged, like Waianae and Waiahole. We got lucky here in Kailua.”
“The islands of Kauai and Niihau received catastrophic damage and most of Kauai is without power,” they explained. “We are slowly seeing the videos of the aftermath of Hurricane Lowell through social media.”
“Please pray for those affected and donate if you are able,” they added.
‘Renovation Aloha’ Couple Shared Their Hurricane Prep
On September 7, Tristyn took to Instagram Stories to give an update their preparation for the storm.
“The hurricane is trending away from the islands, but the outer bands are still probably going to bring us some weather,” she shared. “It’s windy … it was raining a lot yesterday. It’s not raining a ton today, but we are just prepping — because if anything’s going to happen, I think we’re going to lose electricity again.”
She noted, “I’m really praying for Kauai and Ni’ihau.”
“We have water, we have dog food, we have canned food. We have our generator,” she continued. “We’d just rather be safe than sorry. And I’m doing laundry and cleaning my house right now.”
Kamohai also gave an update on Instagram, giving a glimpse at some of the ways they were prepping for the hurricane.
“He noted in the caption, “We are in the thick of Hurricane season here in Hawai’i. Always best to be safe and prepped. Praying for our islands. Stay safe out there fam 🤙🏽.”
“Today’s an interesting day because we have a hurricane that’s on its way up towards the island chain,” he said. “Hopefully it’s going to stay away from directly hitting any of the islands, but the outer bands are getting really close to especially Kauai, but also us. So today I’m getting prepared.”
The HGTV star purchased gasoline and propane for their generator as well as other supplies. “Because after the last storm, our electricity went out for almost 24 hours and we had no way to power our house,” he shared.

Other fans noted, “Sending positive thoughts and prayers for you and your precious family” and “I’m thinking of you and your family, just be safe. It sounds like you’re pretty prepared.”
Fellow HGTV star Mika Kleinschmidt also commented, noting, “🙏❤️ We know the feeling being here in Florida. Prep and pray and be safe.”
