‘Renovation Aloha’ Stars Tristyn & Kamohai Kalama Share Update After Hurricane Lala, Ask Fans to Keep Praying

After an outpouring of prayers from concerned fans, “Renovation Aloha” stars Tristyn and Kamohai Kalama are providing an update following Hurricane Lala. The HGTV stars were without power for a time, but their electricity has since been restored. Others are still struggling with power outages, however, and schools have been canceled.

Tristyn & Kamohai Kalama Give Fans an Update After Hurricane Lala

On August 17, the HGTV stars took to their Instagram Stories to share updates after Hurricane Lala swept through the area. It was later downgraded to a tropical storm.

In one video with their kids, Tristyn noted, “Thank you for your well wishes and all your prayers. We are going on, I think, hour 11 or 12 with no power, but we are hanging in there.”

She continued, “There are people in much worse situations than us. Thank you everybody … we are hunkering down. It’s still on and off rain and winds — no power, but we’re doing good.”

“There’s a lot of people in worse situations than us, so please continue to pray for our community,” she added.

The couple also shared a notice from Hawaiian Electric, which reported the massive number of homes without power, and noted that more crew members would be arriving “from the mainland to help expedite post-storm restoration.”

The “Renovation Aloha” stars included a notification of statewide school cancellations on August 17 “due to the severe aftereffects of Hurricane Lala.”

Tristyn later reported that they didn’t have power for 14 hours. “We officially got power back on at 7:03 p.m.,” she said. “Honestly, grateful for all the first responders and Hawaiian Electric guys out there in this weather [working to restore power].”

About 13 hours after that, she explained that they had power, but there were still many without, including her parents and her brother and sister-in-law.

The couple also shared ways for people to donate to families impacted by Hurricane Lala and included another post showing the rainy scene and asking fans to “pray for Hawaii.”

‘Renovation Aloha’ Stars Had to Stay ‘Hunkered Down’ During Storm

On August 16, Tristyn and Kamohai took to Instagram to share a video of the family making brownies to celebrate making it through the week.

“First week back to school ✔️A few wins, a little chaos, and brownies to celebrate,” they noted in the caption.

In a voiceover, Tristyn shared a life update, explaining, “It is Saturday, which means we’ve officially survived our first week back to school. We have a 4th grader and a 2nd grader, which is honestly super crazy to say out loud.”

The HGTV star discussed how returning to the school routine went fairly smoothly. “It actually feels really good to be back into a routine,” Tristyn shared. “And shockingly, getting back into that routine was way easier than we even thought it was going to be.”

She added, “Nothing super profound over here, just making brownies, hanging with the family, and praying that Hurricane Lala passes over the island quickly and does not leave a ton of damage.”

Later that day, the HGTV stars shared an update about the storm. “Rain and winds since 2 a.m. No power as of 5 a.m. We are hunkered down. It will pass,” they explained in their Instagram Stories. “Until then, laptop movie, candles, cards, and snuggles.”
