HGTV Star Studied Hard to Compete on New ‘Celebrity Wheel of Fortune’

Practice makes perfect and Retta is here to prove it. The comedic actress and HGTV star is among the famous contestants competing on a new season of “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune,” with her episode premiering on October 3, 2025.

The “Ugliest House in America” host competes on the iconic game show against New Kids on the Block member Joey McIntyre and actor Oliver Hudson (also known for being Goldie Hawn’s son and Kate Hudson’s brother). In preview clips from the episode, she tells host Ryan Seacrest that she watched lots of “Wheel of Fortune” in preparation, trying to solve each puzzle for practice. Did it help?

Retta Insists She’s ‘Not That Good’ at Game, But Ryan Seacrest Disagrees

In a preview from Retta’s episode released by ABC, it’s clear that she’s in the midst of doing pretty well on the show — even though she’s feeling uneasy about it.

Seacrest is seen telling her, “So, I don’t understand. You keep saying you’re feeling sick about this, but you’re solving all the puzzles.”

“I’m not solving all the puzzles,” Retta quips, and Seacrest counters, “Well, you’re solving a lot of the puzzles. You were doing major show prep for this, right? Watching some episodes?”

The “Parks & Recreation” alum admits, “I was. Yeah, I watched this week. I watched like this.”

Retta then crouches down behind the famous wheel, and widens her eyes, looking like she’s in game mode, studying the contestants’ every move.

“I was very (serious) getting ready,” she sighs, before Seacrest asks if there were “any takeaways” from her studying. Retta cracks, “That I’m not that good!”

“But you are,” Seacrest exclaims, and then Hudson asks, “If you’re not that good, what am I?”

Laughing, she quips, “You’re the worst!”

Retta’s HGTV Show Will Air Right After ‘Celebrity Wheel of Fortune’

On “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune,” now in its sixth season, stars can win up to $1 million for their favorite charities.

In the fall of 2024, Seacrest took over hosting duties from longtime host Pat Sajak on the daily version of “Wheel of Fortune,” with co-host Vanna White by his side. Sajak remained on “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” for one last season, though, so this is Seacrest’s first time hosting the primetime version.

So far, so good. The season six premiere — featuring “Dancing With The Stars” cast members Jenna Johnson, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli — scored the primetime game show its biggest ratings in two years, according to ABC.

Retta’s hourlong episode of “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” premieres on October 3 on ABC at 8 p.m. Eastern time. After that, the latest episode of her series “Scariest House in America” airs on HGTV at 9 p.m. Eastern time.
