Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are not only Hollywood stars and Marvel superheroes, they’re also IRL friends. In fact, the duo decided to spend some quality time together recently by attending a New York Yankees baseball game.
Although Jackman and Reynolds seemed to be entertained by both the action on the field and their companions in the stands, their focus was suddenly brought to one specific point when they suffered from a scare that prompted quite a reaction from the pair.
The Duo Dodged a Super-Speedy Pitch
“Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are at the Yankees game tonight 🤩,” the Major League Baseball (MLB) X.com account wrote on June 3 while sharing a video of the stars in their seats just behind home plate.
Although the famous figures were sitting beside each other, they were both chatting with other people. However, that quickly changed!
The MLB popped up a second video with a caption that reads: “Wolverine and Deadpool scared by a foul ball? Superheroes … they’re just like us 🤣”
In the short clip, a ball speeds past the backcatcher and flies into the net just above Jackman and Reynolds. While the two were never really in any danger thanks to the park’s safety precautions, they still had totally understandable automatic reactions.
Along with initially flinching when the ball came at them, the pair smiled and laughed after the sudden scare.
When the MLB shared the second video on Instagram, fans left quite a few (appreciative and cheeky) comments, with one person writing, “Make this a scene in the next movie 😂”
“Need those spidey senses,” another social media user added.
Someone else wrote, “Even superheroes know when to duck.”
Stars Who Love Big League Baseball
GettyJackman and Reynolds aren’t the only celebrities who you might spot at an MLB game. A fair share of other stars also love this particular sport.
For example, fans of the Yankees include Jay-Z, Jimmy Fallon, Adam Sandler, Lady Gaga and Denzel Washington, according to The Athletic. The same goes for Spike Lee and Billy Crystal, as well as Jennifer Lopez (who, you may remember, was also engaged to former player Alex Rodriguez).
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are fans of the Los Angeles Dodgers, as are Will Ferrell, Rob Lowe, Jason Bateman, Brad Paisley, Bryan Cranston, Magic Johnson, Mary Hart and Holly Robinson Peete (whose son actually works with the team).
GettyOn top of that, Ben Affleck is a Boston Red Sox fan as is Matt Damon, while Bill Murray roots for the Chicago Cubs and Kim Catrall cheers for the Toronto Blue Jays along with Rachel McAdams, Eugene Levy, Nelly Furtado, Eric McCormack, Avril Lavigne and Guillermo del Toro.
Some famous fans have even had the honor of throwing out the first pitch at a game, including Prince Harry, Vince Vaughn, Kristin Cavallari, Miles Teller and Garth Brooks, with Us Weekly explaining, “The country singer was smiling from ear to ear as he threw out the first pitch for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Kansas City Royals game in August 2023.”
