Chris Evans is loving fatherhood. The “Captain America” star made a rare comment about his daughter at a recent superhero Fan Expo. Evans, 45, has been married to Portuguese actress Alba Baptista, 29, since 2023. The couple welcomed their daughter, Alma Grace Baptista Evans, in August 2025.
Evans is gearing up for a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with “Avengers: Doomsday” in December. However, the actor claims he would rather spend time at home with his child.
Chris Evans Says His ‘Priorities Have Shifted’ Since Becoming A Father
Chris Evans was asked about his return to the MCU at a Fan Expo. Despite seemingly signing off in “Avengers: Endgame,” his character, Steve Rogers, will return in a starring role in “Avengers: Doomsday.” Evans has been a fan favorite ever since debuting in the series 15 years ago, but credited the birth of his daughter for the decrease in his workload.
“I have a daughter now and … you need a really good reason to want to go to work now,” Evans explained the shift in his career. “So, you know, priorities have shifted a bit.”
Since the birth of his daughter, he’s appeared in 2024’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Red One.” In 2025, he appeared in “Honey Don’t!,” “Materialists,” and “Sacrifice.” However, Evans’ only announced project in the near future is “Avengers: Doomsday.”
Evans’ real life currently complements his character, as Steve Rogers is also shown to be a new father in the upcoming MCU movie.
Inside Chris Evans And Alba Baptista’s Relationship
Evans and Alba Baptista were first linked romantically in 2021. The pair didn’t confirm their relationship until 2023 in an Instagram post. They were married in September of the same year.
The couple has rarely spoken of their daughter since her birth. Evans’ comments mark a rare occasion of the actor speaking about fatherhood on a public platform. Baptista, similarly, has not handed out many details of her personal life.
Evans did open up significantly to The Knot in a June 2025 interview. The 45-year-old revealed how he had proposed to Baptista. Evans had practiced speaking Baptista’s native language as part of his proposal.
“I proposed to my wife in Portuguese,” he elaborated to the outlet. “She’s Portuguese, so I learned how to say, ‘Will you marry me?’ in Portuguese. I had practiced it all week. I had practiced it so much that while I’d be making breakfast, and you almost just start saying it out loud. Like, ‘Oh, God, that’s not just a song that’s stuck in my head! It’s gonna let the cat out of the bag.’ I got really nervous when it came time to do it. I actually think I screwed it up, but I still know it.”
Even with motherhood, Baptista has also remained active. The actress was seen in 2025’s “Borderline,” 2026’s “Mother Mary,” and will next appear in 2027’s “Voltron.” “Flesh of the Gods” is also in development with Baptista part of the cast.
Since filming schedules occur much earlier than release dates, it’s difficult to pinpoint when either Evans or Baptista has been on a break. For the time being, Evans’ comments reflect his desire to put fatherhood over work.
