Could Adele be the next star to headline the Super Bowl halftime show? Insiders say the Grammy-winning powerhouse has been approached about the coveted 2026 gig in Santa Clara, California, though nothing is official just yet.
With names like Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus also floating around as contenders, the NFL is keeping fans guessing on who will own the world’s biggest stage next February.
Adele at Halftime?
According to Page Six, NFL insiders have been excited to announce that Adele is this year’s pick to play the halftime show at the 2026 Super Bowl. However, nothing is set in stone, and the halftime act is still being figured out.
This isn’t the first time Adele has been linked to the halftime show. Rumors were flying around back in 2016, but the “Rolling in the Deep” singer previously said she turned down the gig for the 2017 Super Bowl.
At that time, Adele told a Los Angeles crowd, “First of all, I’m not doing the Super Bowl… I mean, that show is not about music. I can’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I did say no.”
While Adele said she was asked, the NFL and sponsor Pepsi denied the claim at that time, saying, “We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl half-time show… However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else,” Page Six reported.
NFL Wants Taylor Swift to Perform?
The halftime performer is chosen by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation in partnership with the NFL. The act chosen is usually announced in September.
However, it looks like NFL commissioner Roger Goodell might be interested in the prospect of Swift taking the stage. Goodell appeared on NBC’s “Today” and host Savannah Guthrie asked him about the possibility.
He replied, “She is a special, special talent, and obviously she would be welcome at any time.”
Guthrie pressed Goodell for more details, but the only details he gave away were, “I can’t tell you anything about that… It’s a maybe.” Goodell added, “I’m waiting on my friend Jay-Z to be able to help me… It’s in his hands.”
Adele Is No Sports Fan
Adele is engaged to one of sport’s biggest agents, Rich Paul. However, the British crooner doesn’t appear to be that interested in sports.
While she has been seen with him in attendance at NBA games, it looks like she might not be too interested in the actual game going on.
At one of her shows in Las Vegas in 2024, Adele talked about going to the Super Bowl the year before with Paul, Page Six stated. Adele joked, “Last year I went, obviously I didn’t go for the football at all. I went to watch Rihanna.”
