Back in the mid-2000s, Gavin Rossdale was married to Gwen Stefani and the two lived next door to Britney Spears. Although all three stars have moved on in various ways, the Bush singer has just opened up about what his former neighbor was really like. That includes recalling a fun day they spent together swimming in his pool.
Gavin Says Britney ‘Was a Real Character’
Rossdale talked about Spears during the Tuesday, April 7, episode of SiriusXM’s Page Six Radio, after co-host Evan Real mentioned to his guest, “There is an interview that Britney Spears did forever ago, where she just randomly said, ‘One time I went swimming with Gavin Rossdale.'”
Indeed, Spears brought up Rossdale while doing an interview with Australia’s “The Project” in 2015, saying, “I would love to work with Gwen Stefani. I think she’s really cool. She was actually my next door neighbor in Los Angeles for a while. I swam with her husband so it was really cool.”
During Rossdale’s latest interview, Real asked him, “Do you remember swimming with Britney Spears?”
“Of course, how could you forget that?” Rossdale said in response. “We were neighbors and so she came around when the kids were small.”
Noting that “she was a real character,” and that he “got on really well with her,” Rossdale added, “She was lovely. She was amazing.”
He also revealed a fun fact about the pop star saying, “She’s a great swimmer.”
Britney & Gavin Have Stayed Connected Over the Years
This isn’t the first time Rossdale has opened up about Spears, and, in turn, she’s mentioned him as well.
For instance, on October 21, 2021, Spears shared a video on Instagram that showed her dancing to “Glycerine” by Bush, and wrote a caption, saying, “‘Glycerine’ was my favorite song in high school … A little secret for ya … @gwenstefani invited me over one day to swim 👙 at her house and me and Gavin from Bush swam together … literally the coolest moment of my life 🤩😂🤣 !!!!”
Spears’ post prompted Rossdale to share the video and add a message to his former neighbor, saying, “@britneyspears i love you — best video — sweetest words.”
Rossdale also brought up Spears’ love of Bush’s song in an August 31, 2023 Instagram post, writing, “I had the pleasure of waking up to @britneyspears dancing to glycerine.”
After acknowledging Spears’ openness around the personal challenges she’s faced, he added, “It’s so liberating and essential when someone with Britney’s Reach addresses true and hidden feelings. That way people can be inspired in the purest way to ask for help — to admit to their struggle — and to feel better 🖤”
