Rock Star, 44, Undergoes Emergency Brain Surgery After New Tumors Amid Rare Cancer Battle

Chad Gilbert is opening up about a major health scare, sharing that he recently underwent brain surgery after doctors discovered new tumors. The New Found Glory guitarist and singer revealed that symptoms first appeared while he was performing, when he began struggling with movement in his left hand and noticed weakness in his leg.

Chad Gilbert Details Symptoms Before Brain Surgery After New Tumors

“On February 20th, I played a show in Nashville and was struggling to control the movements of my left hand. My left leg was getting weaker by the day, and I started stumbling and falling at times. On the 23rd, I was taken to the ER, where a CT scan showed 3 new tumors had appeared in my brain.”

Gilbert said he underwent surgery days later and has been recovering in the hospital since.

“On 2/27, I had successful brain surgery and have been recovering in the hospital since. I regained the function of my left hand immediately 🙏🏻”

‘Not the End of My Story’: A Message of Strength

Despite the setback, Gilbert is holding on to hope — and choosing to see this chapter not as an ending, but as a turning point.

In one of his most difficult moments, a simple but powerful conversation with his radiation oncologist helped shift his perspective in a way he won’t forget.

“My radiation oncologist told me, ‘This isn’t a fatal blow or the end of your story—it’s simply the start of a new chapter.’”

Those words stayed with him.

Gilbert admitted the road to recovery hasn’t been easy. There have been setbacks, uncertainty, and days that felt heavier than others. But through it all, he has kept moving forward — one step at a time.

“It hasn’t been a smooth road, but I’m feeling much better and growing stronger every day.”

Now, as he continues to heal, Gilbert says the support surrounding him has made all the difference. The messages, the check-ins, and the quiet acts of kindness have helped carry him through.

“I’m thankful to everyone who has checked in and supported my family throughout this long and challenging journey.”

Now, as he continues to recover, Gilbert remains focused on healing and slowly finding his way back to the life and music he loves.

“Can’t use my phone much yet and have a lot of messages to catch up on. More stories to come when my brain is working well again. Love you all and am looking forward to sharing more music and fun with you as we come out of this ❤️”

Ongoing Cancer Battle & Treatment Journey

Gilbert has been open about his ongoing battle with a rare form of cancer, regularly sharing updates with fans as he moves through treatment.

In recent months, he revealed he had resumed radiation after doctors identified what he described as “a small spot in my back.”

“From rock to radiation — it’s scary, it sucks, and I wish it wasn’t a part of my life,” he wrote. “But truthfully, through the hardships come new outlooks, gratitude, positivity, and a freeing new way to see life. I’m thankful that I’m still in the fight and look forward to putting this enemy to rest for good.”

Even amid uncertainty, Gilbert has continued to focus on perspective, drawing on his experience to uplift others facing similar struggles.

“I encourage everyone going through emotional struggles to find joy in the simple things and the fun moments you might not have experienced without your struggle,” he added. “We learn from it all. Give yourself a break.”

Earlier this year, Gilbert gently reassured fans after a social media post sparked confusion about his condition, taking a moment to clear the air with his signature warmth.

“To all the nice people reaching out,” he wrote.

“I’m not in the hospital. The picture that was in my story, if you look, is just a New Year’s repost from my wife’s page. I liked the old photo of when my daughter visited me earlier in the year. Thanks for the concern. I’ll add more context next time. Just thought you saw her name on the post! Much love. Here’s to a great 2026.”

His latest update captures both the reality of the road ahead and the quiet resilience guiding him forward: taking each day as it comes, supported by loved ones and the unwavering encouragement of his fans.
