One of the biggest names in music, the legendary Chaka Khan — known as the “Queen of Funk” — is celebrating her 73rd birthday.
Khan, whose real name is Yvette Marie Stevens, was born on March 23, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois.
The funk, disco, pop, and R&B sensation has been performing since since the early 1970s. She has released 21 albums, 104 singles and EPs, and 20 compilations (per Discogs).
Her many iconic hits as part of the funk band Rufus include 1974’s “Tell Me Something Good,” 1976’s “Sweet Thing,” 1979’s “Do You Love What You Feel,” and 1983’s “Ain’t Nobody.” As a solo artist, her biggest singles include 1978’s “I’m Every Woman,” 1981’s “What Cha’ Gonna Do for Me,” and a cover of Prince’s “Feel for You” in 1984. Khan is also known for providing the backing vocals on Steve Winwood’s 1986 smash hit “Higher Love.”
The star’s team took to her Instagram account to share news of her birthday with her 1.1 million followers.
