Ed Sheeran is unharmed after a terrifying stage accident sent six of his crew members to the hospital on the night of Saturday, August 29. Click on Detroit says six people were hurt in the load-out following the performance, which was held at Ford Field.
Sheeran, 35, served as the Mega Mentor on “The Voice” in 2021. Saturday’s show was a part of his “Loop Tour” to support his 2025 album “Play.” He has not publicly addressed the incident as of publishing, but there are no reports that he was injured or in harm’s way.
The outlet says they learned from photos they obtained that the accident involved equipment being used to tear down the stage, and that they spoke to a worker who was hit by a piece of equipment. The report says he explained that he stayed in the hospital overnight before going home on Sunday.
The story also notes they obtained dispatch audio which reveals fire dispatch crews were sent to the scene around 11 PM.
What Happened in the Accident With Ed Sheeran’s Stage?
According to Click on Detroit, Local 4 says they were told that equipment being used to tear down the stage “lost control as the stage was being torn down near the vehicle tunnel.” They noted someone can be heard in dispatch audio saying, “2000 Brush, between East Adams and East Montcalm for a forklift injury accident.”
Several workers were reportedly hit by the equipment as they were walking “towards a different area of the stadium” to take their break.
The report notes that the Detroit Fire Department stated that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening. One worker described being “hit in the chest,” saying it happened suddenly and that he’s never experienced anything similar before.
Ford Field released a statement addressing the accident that reads, “Ford Field has begun a full review and is cooperating with the appropriate authorities and with the event’s production partners. Out of respect for the people involved and the integrity of that review, we will not speculate on the cause. We are grateful to the Detroit Fire Department and EMS for their rapid response.”

In the song “Regrets,” Sheeran touches on the pain of being away from his young daughters while touring. He sings, “You’re too young to understand that Daddy’s coming home. Every time I leave the house, you think I’m forever gone.” Another line alludes to “hundreds” of phone calls to tell the little girls, who are now 5 and 4, “goodnight” from the road.
Although being on a tour is a unique position, millions of parents can relate to feeling torn from their children due to work.
In a CBS interview, he said of the album, “I’m just putting it in the universe and it all exist in people’s lives however it exists. But I think records have to be made primarily for the artist first, cause then like, I don’t know, otherwise it’s just a product.”
