Joe Jonas once auditioned for the kind of role most people would not want to fumble: Jennifer Aniston‘s love interest.
During an episode of the Jonas Brothers‘ new podcast, “Hey Jonas,” the singer looked back on a few major acting auditions that did not exactly go his way.
Among them were roles in “Wicked” and “The Morning Show.”
Joe Jonas Reveals He ‘Crashed and Burned’ During Audition for ‘The Morning Show’
During the podcast, Joe opens up about a couple of auditions for roles he ultimately didn’t get, including a “love interest” Jennifer Aniston’s character, Alex Levy, on Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show.”
Both Nick and Kevin Jonas recall what happened and weighed in with details of their own. Basically, Joe’s (potential) role would have been a “right-wing-y podcast host guy”—a role that was later filled by Boyd Holbrook for the Brodie “Bro” Hartman character in season 4, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“Long story short. I show up early and they’re like, ‘Oh!’ And they did this thing, which was very kind, but … They were like, ‘Oh, we have a private room for you.’ I was like, ‘OK …,'” Joe recalled.
Joe described that “private room” as “the saddest room you can imagine.” He was able to hear other men auditioning for the role and he said they were “crushing it.”
Getty“I go in and I just … I crash and burn. I can’t even. I did a terrible thing,” he continued. “They were like, ‘Oh, you can read off paper for this if you want.’ I’m like, ‘I got it.’ I’m like, ‘I’m good.’
“It was literally like, I don’t even know what I’m auditioning for, just like me forgetting the name of ‘The Morning Show.’ It was just gone from me. It was such a bad audition. I was like, ‘Ugh.'”
Joe Jonas Calls ‘Wicked’ Audition ‘Strange’
GettyJoe also shared that his audition for “Wicked” didn’t go as planned either.
Without giving away too many details, the DNCE frontman said his audition was “a bit of a strange one because there was, like, incredible theater vocalists I could hear clear as day.”
Joe didn’t go into specifics about the role he was auditioning for.
What Is ‘The Morning Show’?
Getty“The Morning Show” is Apple TV+’s drama about the people behind a major morning news program, where the cameras stop rolling but the work drama doesn’t.
Jennifer Aniston stars as Alex Levy, a longtime anchor trying to hold her spot at the network after a major shakeup changes everything around her. Reese Witherspoon co-stars as Bradley Jackson, a journalist who gets pulled into the show just as its polished image starts cracking.
The series follows the anchors, producers and executives trying to keep the show moving while dealing with public fallout, workplace tension and personal messes behind the scenes.
“The Morning Show” has also been an awards player for Apple TV+. The series has won Emmy, SAG and Critics Choice Awards, including a SAG Award for Aniston and an Emmy for Billy Crudup.
