Reese Witherspoon Looks Back on Iconic Career Ahead of 50th Birthday: ‘I Know Who I Am Now’

Reese Witherspoon is getting reflective ahead of a major milestone.

The Oscar-winning actress took to Instagram to share a series of photos from throughout her career, looking back on the roles and experiences that shaped her as she prepares to turn 50 on March 22.

“I turn 50 on Sunday, and I can’t help but reflect on the years that shaped me into who I am today. Feeling grateful. 💕,” Witherspoon wrote in the caption.

Alongside the message, she posted throwback photos spanning decades of her career—from “Legally Blonde” and “Cruel Intentions” to “Wild” and “Big Little Lies.”

In the post, Witherspoon opened up about what it was like navigating fame at a young age, admitting she didn’t always feel confident in the early stages of her career.

“I was working nonstop, trying to figure out life, how to be a mom, and I had no idea what I was doing half the time,” Witherspoon wrote, recalling a time when she was juggling major roles—namely Tracy Flick in “Election” and Annette Hargrove in “Cruel Intentions”—while also figuring out life behind the scenes.

Both of the aforementioned movies came out in 1999. Witherspoon gave birth to her first child, daughter Ava Elizabeth Phillippe, later that year. Her first son, Deacon Reese Phillippe, was born in 2003. She later had son Tennessee James Toth in 2012.

Witherspoon rose to prominence because of these films, and later cemented her status as a household name with “Legally Blonde,” before going on to win an Academy Award for her role in “Walk the Line.” Over the years, she’s taken on producing and writing books, helping bring female-driven stories to the forefront with projects like “Big Little Lies” and “The Morning Show.”

Now, she says she feels more grounded.

“I know who I am now,” Witherspoon added, reflecting on how her perspective has evolved over time.
