Kerry Washington’s Surprise Call to Tony Goldwyn Mid-Interview Quickly Turns Steamy

Kerry Washington just gave “Scandal” fans the Olivia and Fitz crossover moment they didn’t know they needed.

During a recent appearance on Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Washington was dared to call her former “Scandal” co-star Tony Goldwyn—best known for playing President Fitzgerald Grant—and the result was a surprisingly candid (and very on-brand) reunion.

While reflecting on iconic Olivia Pope and Fitz moments from the hit ABC drama, Cooper asked Washington to name the couple’s “hottest” scene. The Emmy Award-winning actress pointed to their dreamy Vermont getaway.

“I think that whole moment was just so beyond dreamy,” she said while sitting cross-legged on Cooper’s couch on set. “And that we got to actually see Vermont was pretty spectacular.”

On “Scandal,” Vermont represented Olivia and Fitz’s fantasy of a normal life together, far removed from the chaos of the White House, Washington, D.C., and their complicated and secret affair.

Cooper then took things a step further.

“You have your phone?” Cooper asked. “Would you call Tony and ask him what he thinks his favorite go-to iconic romantic moment of the two of you was?”

Washington agreed to try—with hesitation, though, as she thought Goldwyn would be on set. Moments later, he picked up the phone.

“Hi Kerry!” Goldwyn said enthusiastically.

“Hi Tony! I’m in the middle of an interview and I got dared to call you,” she replied.

“Should I say ‘Uh-oh’?” Goldwyn joked.

With little context and no time to prepare, Goldwyn was asked to name what he thought was the most iconic romantic moment between their characters.

“We had a few,” he joked, before landing on one particularly memorable—and chaotic—scene. “I was thinking, having sex in an electrical closet.”

Washington laughed and immediately recalled the moment, adding that it took place during a baptism storyline—making it even more outrageous in hindsight.

“We were such bad people,” she joked.

The two also reminisced about other fan-favorite scenes, including early moments in Olivia’s apartment and their now-iconic Vermont storyline.

Before hanging up, Washington told Goldwyn, “I love you madly,” to which he responded by sending his regards to Cooper—prompting a playful “Tell her daddy says hi.”

‘Scandal’ Cast Remains Close

The spontaneous phone call also reiterated the fact that the former co-stars have remained close years after the show ended. Scandal went off air in 2018.

Washington shared that while she and Goldwyn are still friends, he often ends up spending time with her husband instead.

“He mostly hangs out with my husband, which is hilarious,” Washington said. Washington and her husband, actor, director, producer, and former NFL cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, tied the knot in 2023.

She added that the broader “Scandal” cast has stayed connected as well, mentioning recent time spent with co-star Katie Lowes.

“I just hiked with Katie Lowes last week,” she said.

At the end of the interview, Washington thanked Cooper for pushing her to make the call.

“Thank you for forcing me to call my friend Tony,” she said.

And just like that, fans got one more unexpected Olivia and Fitz moment—no script required.
