Keke Palmer has had a surprisingly huge singer and actress on her side over the years – the one and only Jennifer Lopez. The fellow singer and actress co-starred with JLo on the production of “Hustlers” and has now spoken out and praised Jennifer for her continued support and guidance. She even deemed the former “American Idol” judge as such a “girls girl”!
What Did Keke Palmer Say About Jennifer Lopez?
Keke talked about JLo on today’s episode of Amy Poehler’s podcast ‘Good Hang’. She described Jennifer as becoming a “real mentor” in her life and said that JLo had also offered her advice to get through personal struggles she’s faced.
She shared: “We became really close after that [after “Hustlers”]. I’ve gone through things in my life where it’s like randomly she’ll be like, ‘Call me if you need me.’ I’ll call her and she’ll give me some real deal and it’s just like she’s a real girl’s girl.”
Keke further shared that JLo noticed her strong worth ethic and wanted to do what she could to help Keke to succeed, noting: “We kind of bonded because she saw me on my grind. She’s a real mentor and she’s like I want you to win.”
Keke has been open about how much she admires the “On The Floor” hitmaker, previously telling Entertainment Weekly that she was initially nervous to be working alongside her idol. Keke also gushed about Jennifer during the premiere of the Toronto International Film Festival in 2019. She said: “My first scene in the film was with her. She was letting me know that she was glad I was a part of it and that she thinks we’re going to have a great time. I appreciated that she embraced me from the beginning, because it’s her movie, she’s the head of it, so it’s going to be a fun time!”
Keke and JLo on ‘Hustlers’
‘Hustlers’ came out in 2019 and follows a crew of strippers in New York who turn the tables on their clients and max out their credit cards in a major, lucrative scam. JLo played the role of Ramona and Keke the role of Mercedes Ramona was the ringleader of the scam, which largely took place in a 2000’s club. JLo even took home a Golden Globe for her complex portrayal of the character. Meanwhile Mercedes is part of Ramona’s gang, known for being fast-talking and bringing high energy to the group.
Rapper Cardi B was also part of the cast of “Hustlers” and the film served as her feature-film acting debut. She played the role of Bronx-born stripper, Diamond.
The film was a huge hit worldwide, grossing over $157 million on a modest budget of $20 million. It earned $33.3 million in its opening weekend alone, making it the highest-grossing film and biggest opening ever for STX Entertainment at the time. It also became JLo’s biggest opening weekend of her acting career.
