Madonna’s Timeless Advice to Amy Schumer Amid Public Scrutiny

Madonna has always found herself in the middle of controversy. Whether it was related to Pepsi canceling their collaboration with her when “Like a Prayer” came out, or when she kissed Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, it just became part of her brand.

However, as the singer faced more criticism over her looks and age, she used her platform more often to remind women that we need to support each other. So it makes sense that she’d make sure Amy Schumer, who’s been defending herself against weight-loss attacks and questions about her divorce, knows she has her back.

Madonna Backs Amy Schumer Amid Weight Loss Scrutiny With Powerful Message

On December 1, Schumer posted an Instagram Reel, then deleted it and reposted it as an Instagram story. She addressed the rumors of divorce between her and Chris Fischer, saying that the reason she wasn’t wearing her wedding ring was that “I never ever wear jewlery.” She then explained that she “didn’t lose 30lbs I lost 50. Not to look hot which does feel fun and temporary. I did it to survive I had a disease that makes your face extremely puffy that can kill you.”

“Sorry for whatever feeling it’s giving you that I lost that weight,” she added. Madonna hopped into the comments to remind the “Trainwreck” star that it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks other than herself.

“Why do you feel like you need to apologize for looking after yourself?” Madonna asked? “People are always going to have their judgments and their opinions. Do what makes you feel happy and healthy.”

Madonna and Amy Schumer: Decades of Friendship and Mutual Support in Spotlight

Schumer and Madonna have been friends for at least the last decade, and have heaped praise on each other over the years. In 2016, Madonna opened for Schumer during her New York City performance.

“So much fun opening up for [Amy Schumer] at Madison Square Garden tonight!!,” Madonna captioned the since-deleted picture. “It was short but it was sweet (like me). I’m forever changed! Love you Amy!!”

In January, Schumer said on “The Howard Stern Show” that she’d been coaching Madonna, as the “Like a Virgin” singer was trying her hand at doing stand-up.

“She’s funny,” Schumer said. “She’s got jokes, she’s got things to say, she’s got tea.”

“It’s fun,” she added. “She’s dishing, she’s talking about her life. I love it.”
