Michael Jackson’s Daughter Paris Jackson Reveals Why She Called Off Her Engagement to Justin Long

Paris Jackson has explained the reason why she called time on her romance with former fiance, Justin Long. The daughter of iconic singer Michael Jackson and music producer Justin got engaged in December of 2024 after two years of later. However, they decided it was better to break things off and go their separate ways in August of last year.

Speaking recently on the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast, Paris has now opened up about the decision and why it was an essential one to make for the sake of her happiness.

The Interview With Paris

Sitting down on a sofa opposite podcast host Alex Cooper, Paris was asked how she knew she had to do something as major as call off an engagement. But Paris answered with little hesitation, citing that she knew it was what had to be done.

The star said: “It was a choice that I needed to make to be happy. As far as the public side of it goes, […] it’s not that big of a deal. This is also my second engagement that I’ve called off. I don’t know if you could count the first one, it was real to me.”

Paris then continued to explain that she mulled the decision over for quite some time in her head before realizing that she had to let her past relationship go. She followed on by saying: “There were times where I did try and end it, but there was this little voice being like, ‘What if however long down the line…?’, and this is a voice that a lot of us have, of ‘if I had just hung in there a little bit longer it would have gotten better’.

“I’m the person that needs to be sure. Even though I have a therapist, a clinical psychologist, a coach, I’ve got a whole council of people, friends, that know a lot about relationships and all the things that I was going through at the time that are like ‘honey…?’, and were asking me the right questions.”

The information about Paris calling off her engagement comes at the same time as the young star chatting more about the relationship she has with her mother, Debbie Rowe. Paris doesn’t comment much on her mother, who she didn’t meet until she was a teenager.

She mentioned asking about who her mother was when she was little, sharing: “I remember, you know, kind of asking about it when I was probably around, like, 10 or 11, and the answers I got were, you know, sufficient to me,” Paris explained. “Just like, ‘Oh, what’s her name?’ I got told her name and I’m like, ‘All right, cool,’ like, [I] moved on.

“We connected when I was about 15 and then really started getting closer towards the end of my teen years and things like that,” she added. “I remember coming downstairs and she was in the living room with my grandma. I came in and I was just like, ‘Hey, mom.’ And she was like, ‘Hi.’ I sat down, we talked for a second, and then we went out for the day and just hung out. She’s a [Sagittarius], so she’s got the fire, and I’m an Aries, so I got the fire. We’re very similar.”

Paris lost her father, famous Michael Jackson, in 2009. His cause of death has been listed as acute propofol intoxication combined with sedatives. He was only 50 years old.
