Britney Spears recently made a sincere and reflective declaration about her marriage to Sam Asghari. Now, the actor and reality star has issued a response to her statement, insisting that what they had was very real for him. This comes after the two have been separated for years now.
Asghari’s representative issued his response to Spears to PEOPLE on August 25. The “Traitors” star said, “Our marriage was very real to me. It may have been short, but we were together for seven years. I was in love with her, will always have love for her, and wish her the best always.”
Spears and Asghari’s marriage lasted for 14 months after they tied the knot in 2022. Sadly, he filed for divorce from her in August 2023. They finalized the divorce in 2024.
Spears’ Initial Statement About Her Marriage to Asghari
Spears is an open book on her social media, often letting fans in on her innermost personal thoughts. On August 25, the beloved singer used the Instagram platform to discuss her former marriage to Asghari. She began, “We’re just people so fragile and human, the hardest years of my life were my two sons gone for those 3 years…”
Spears continued, “I was cut off from calling or texting, and I remember in shock my secret to survival was denial and a lot of tears, it’s weird me and Sam were married, but it almost felt like a fake distraction to help me deal with it.”
She then said she is healing, stating, “Well, I know I’m healing bc im hungry again like a child or baby… I’m so hungry it hurts, and when I eat, it’s like it’s my first time ever eating in my life … I believe, although I loved my home, there is waaay too much abuse and trauma in there.”
It’s worth noting that Spears has now removed the commentary from the post and only the accompanying photo remains.
He Opened up About His Relationship with Spears
Asghari and Spears haven’t been together for quite some time now. However, the actor insists he still cares for the singer. He spoke to Page Six leading up to his “Traitors” debut and said, “I’ve learned a lot in the past five or six years being exposed to that (darker) side of Hollywood. And it’s quite a blessing.”
He continued, “You have to be careful in every industry. Not just in Hollywood. You have to always be careful and protect yourself and protect the people that you love.”
Asghari went on, “I think it’s the bare minimum you can do as a partner, to be a backbone to someone and to be their biggest supporter, biggest cheerleader, the biggest…the biggest everything.” When asked if he still speaks to Spears, he said, “I just wish her the best. I think that the number one factor of a partner is to be there for one another, no matter what.”
He added, “We all go through this life, and we go through different chapters, and you meet people along the way, and they are a big part of your life. You’re just always thankful for every moment that you spent with people in the past.”
