Travis Barker has opened up about the “wake up call” that stopped him from remaining on drugs. It follows last week when Travis released his tell-all Disney documentary “Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear”, which touches upon all kinds of vulnerable moments throughout the singer’s life from surviving a plane crash and sharing how he wants to be remembered after he passes to the highs and lows of the industry.
What Made Travis Quit Taking Drugs For Good?
In an interview with the Associated Press, Travis chatted about the plane crash he survived and how it also doubled as a wake up call that encouraged him to quit substances. He began by talking about the fear he had of flying even before being on the fatal crash that killed two pilots and two of his friends, sharing: “I have no clue where that even comes from except for flying when I was a kid and I was with my mom and I saw her terrified.”
Travis then continued to explain: “I don’t know if that really had an effect on me or what it was. But my drug use started from first being able to get on planes because they scared me so much. Then to not only being afraid of flying, but I had to leave my children for long periods of time to go on tour.”
After recapping his flying fears, Travis then recalled how horrendous the tragic plane crash was and how it led him to make life changes on the spot. He revealed: “Instead of ever going to rehab or quitting, I got into a plane accident where I nearly lost everything and I was in a burn center for six months on morphine and I had 30 surgeries.
“70 percent of my body was burnt and I never wanted to touch a drug again in my life. So, I don’t know if that didn’t happen to me if I would still be using drugs in some way, shape, or form. But that was my wake-up call. That was my rehab.”
How Travis Wants to Be remembered When He Passes Away
The interview comes as Travis got candid in his documentary, sharing how he wishes to be remembered when he passes away. The singer has two simple wishes in terms for his legacy: one relating to his music career and the other to him more personally.
He simply shared: “I think I’d want to be remembered for my music and my drumming and being a great father, husband, and son and brother.”
Travis is married to Kourtney Kardashian, who he shares a son with called Rocky Thirteen. The happy couple welcomed Rocky in November 2023 to their beautiful blended family, as they each share children with previous partners.
The duo also sparked pregnancy buzz at Travis’ documentary premiere, seemingly unable to keep their hands off of Kourtney’s belly, so who knows? Maybe another little one is on the way!
We wish Travis the best with the success of his documentary and all that’s yet to come in his personal and professional life.
