Millie Bobby Brown Makes Rare Comments About Motherhood, Raising Daughter with Jake Bongiovi

“Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown is opening up about how her life has changed since becoming a mom.

The Netflix alum gave insight into her parenting dynamic with husband Jake Bongiovi in a new video shared on Instagram by UNICEF on Monday, June 1. Brown, who is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, spoke out as part of the organization’s “My Parenting Journey” series.

The 22-year-old actress and her 24-year-old husband surprised fans in August 2025 when they announced on Instagram that they had adopted their first child, a baby girl. So far, they haven’t revealed the little one’s name or any photos of her face, opting for a very private childhood.

What Surprised Millie Bobby Brown About Motherhood

As UNICEF noted that “everyone experiences being a parent differently,” Brown opened up in the video about what surprised her the most about becoming a mom, how she handles uncertainty as a parent, and how her life has changed since her daughter’s birth.

When asked what she wasn’t prepared for, Brown replied, “The love.”

“People say they love their children. I don’t understand how that much happens in my heart,” she continued. “Like, I don’t know how the feeling is so overwhelming. It’s just incomprehensible.”

The actress was also asked to share a moment when she felt “totally unsure” as a parent.

“Naturally, when you see that they’re doing something, you’re like, ‘Is that normal? Do they do that?'” she recalled. “And you know, I’ll call my mom. She’s just like my 911. ‘Mom, did I do this? Did my siblings do this?’ And she is like, ‘Oh, that’s completely normal. They do that all the time.'”

Explaining that she’s “honored to have support,” Brown also said she often calls Bongiovi’s mother, rocker Jon Bon Jovi’s longtime wife Dorothea, for advice. “It’s so nice to hear reassurance,” she added.

Millie’s Bond with Her Daughter

Elsewhere in the interview, Brown revealed the one thing she and her daughter bond over: their love of food.

“She loves food. I love food. So our love language together is food,” she explained. “We just love to sit there and eat, and she always wants to try what I’m having, and I’m always eating what she’s having.”

Revealing what moving into her mom era means, Brown said her life has “changed in a lot of ways” since her daughter’s birth.

“Raising a daughter is a real responsibility and I just try to learn as much as I can and feed it into her life so that she knows nothing other than girls supporting girls, or women succeeding, women achieving their dreams,” she continued, “and living in a world and building a world for her that isn’t unrealistic, but it sets a standard for her to know that she shouldn’t settle for anything less.”

Lastly, she gave a little insight into how she and Bongiovi approach each day as parents, after being asked to describe parenting in just one phrase.

“To describe parenting as a phrase, I would say, ‘Take it one day at a time,'” she told UNICEF. “My husband and I always say, ‘Today was today and tomorrow is gonna be tomorrow, let’s just sleep.’ You just take it day by day.”
