Why This ‘Love Is Blind’ Season 9 Cast Member Abruptly Left the Experiment

This article contains spoilers for “Love Is Blind” season 9.

Anna Yuan sent shockwaves through the pods when she suddenly quit filming “Love Is Blind” season 9, and now she’s finally explained why. Throughout the first two episodes, which premiered on October 1, 2025, audiences watched Anna make strong connections with both Patrick Suzuki and Blake Anderson. However, at the beginning of “Love Is Blind” episode 3, Anna failed to show up for either of her planned dates.

Anna and Patrick bonded over their shared Chinese heritage and the fact that they’re both the children of immigrants. Anna was vulnerable in the pods, admitting she had never gone this long without speaking to her parents and that ultimately, she wanted to take care of them. Patrick understood where Anna was coming from, strengthening their connection.

Unfortunately, when Patrick entered the pod for his scheduled date with Anna, she was nowhere to be found, and he wasn’t given any explanation. Eventually, he left and went back to the lounge, unclear on what just happened. Later, before Blake set out for his date, the producers alerted him that Anna had left the experiment.

Thanks to Netflix’s Tudum, we now have an explanation from Anna.

Why Anna Yuan Left ‘Love Is Blind’ Early

The vulnerability that made Anna so alluring to Patrick and Blake was precisely why she realized she couldn’t finish out the Netflix experiment. It took Anna a while to break through Patrick’s walls and get to the deep conversations, but once they did, they realized they had a lot in common. “We’re both children of immigrants, and there are very specific things that every child of immigrant parents goes through. Even if we’re not saying exactly, ‘Oh, yeah, growing up with parents who have a language barrier is difficult,’ we can gather things from that,” Anna told Tudum.

However, while these emotional conversations were important for building a strong, deep connection, Anna eventually became overwhelmed with the vulnerability, especially given the cameras. “I started seeing myself being pretty vulnerable, and it scared me a little bit because this is an intimate part of my brain. These are very sensitive topics for me. It’s not that I’m just sharing it with whoever I’m dating or the other women — this is going to be broadcast for people,” Anna said.

Although Anna had originally been excited at the prospect of finding a lasting love, she began to question whether this particular experiment was worth the anguish. She knew her parents never really understood the concept of “Love Is Blind” and would worry about her, given the fact that she likely couldn’t contact them for weeks. While in the pods, Anna continued to worry about her parents worrying about her. Eventually, the guilt became too much, and Anna left without saying goodbye to anyone.

What Happened to Blake & Patrick After Anna Left

Anna wasn’t Patrick’s only connection, so after she left, he proposed to another woman: Kacie McIntosh. The two got engaged, but their romance was short-lived. By episode 6, Kacie had broken off the engagement.

Blake, like Anna, left “Love Is Blind” season 9 without an engagement. “Sometimes I’m practical to a fault, and as the days ticked on, I just realized that a proposal wasn’t in the cards for me,” Blake told Tudum. He left the show shortly after Anna, although his decision was unrelated to hers.
