Aubrey Plaza, beloved Marvel star and “Parks and Recreation” alum, is opening up about her pregnancy for the first time.
Plaza, 41, is currently expecting a child with her partner, “Girls” star Christopher Abbott. The pair first confirmed the news in a statement to PEOPLE on April 7; now, Plaza is sharing more details about her pregnancy in a podcast appearance.
On Monday, April 13, the actress appeared on the “SmartLess” podcast hosted by Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes, where she gave insight into how she feels about becoming a mother.
Actress ‘Excited’ To Have Baby On Board
“We’ll, there’s a baby inside me,” Plaza told the three men during her appearance, according to Us Weekly.
“Today was a big day. I went to the doctor’s today, and my dog also went to the doctor’s,” she shared. “Both of us—my dog’s getting a scan right now. I got a scan earlier. I’m not kidding.”
“She had to get an ultrasound on her stomach. And then I got an ultrasound on my stomach, and there is a baby in there,” she continued, before telling the guys she was “excited” to be expecting her first child.
“I’ve always wanted to see what that’s all about, you know?” she added. “It just seems so interesting, that whole thing.”
Aubrey Plaza & Christopher Abbott Confirm Baby News
A rep for Plaza confirmed her pregnancy to PEOPLE in early April, with a source telling the publication she’s due this fall.
“It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” the source also added, saying the pair “feel very blessed.”
This will be the first child for both Plaza and Abbott, who previously worked together on the 2020 film “Black Bear” and an Off-Broadway production of “Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.”
Pregnancy After Heartbreak for Plaza
The baby news comes a little more than a year after Plaza’s late husband, Jeff Baena, passed away by suicide in January 2025.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy,” the actress told Variety in a statement from her and Baena’s family at the time. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”
Plaza and Baena were separated at the time of his passing.
The actress opened up about the loss while appearing on Amy Poehler’s podcast in August 2025.
“I think, like, I’m OK. But you know, it’s like a daily struggle,” Plaza told Poehler. “Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you. I feel, overall, I’m here, and I’m functioning — and I feel, you know, like I feel really grateful to be moving through the world.”
