Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” remains one of the most epic blockbuster movies ever made. The iconic sci-fi action-adventure film, based on Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel of the same name, told the story of the fictional island of Isla Nublar, near Costa Rica, where a wealthy businessman and a team of genetic scientists have created a wildlife park filled with de-extinct dinosaurs — ultimately with devastating consequences.
“Jurassic Park’s” wonderful ensemble cast includes the likes of Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Richard Attenborough. It cost around $63 million to make, but grossed over $1 billion at the global box office (per The Numbers), making it a huge commercial success (it was the highest-grossing movie of all-time until “Titanic” overtook it in 1997).
It was also a major critical success, earning nominations for three Academy Awards (Best Sound Effects Editing, Best Sound, and Best Visual Effects) and winning them all. The movie also boasts an impressive 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Jurassic Park” remains a fantastic watch in 2026. Since its release, it has spawned six sequels (the original remains the best!), countless video games, several theme park attractions, comic books, and various other merchandise.
It’s one of those go-to movies to watch if you’re ever at a loose end. It guarantees thrills, laughs, scares, a plethora of great performances, and awe-inspiring special effects that hold up to this day.
While most of the cast are still thriving in their careers, it’s undoubtedly sad that we’ve lost some of them since 1993.
