Beloved Comedian Makes Health Announcement After Motorcycle Accident

Beloved British presenter, writer, actor, and comedian John Bishop shared a sad announcement with fans on Tuesday, September 1. He informed them that he would not be able to compete in an event to aid prostate cancer research because he had been injured in a motorcycle accident

John Bishop Shares Update with Fans After Injury

Thankfully, Bishop is going to be alright, but he does have a broken ankle. “On Sunday, I was meant to be wearing this shirt for Prostate Cancer UK during the Stage 4 ride with Chris Hoy,” he told fans in a video posted on Instagram. “Unfortunately, I won’t be there. I won’t be able to wear this shirt this year because of this.” He then pointed the camera to his injury.

Bishop continued to share his story, saying, “I went out for a motorbike ride today with Tim Peake, who’s a brilliant lad and a great motorcyclist, and I learned a lesson today – astronauts are better motorcyclists than comedians, and so it looks like I’ve broken my ankle, which means unfortunately I can’t do the ride.” Despite not being able to compete, Bishop urged fans to still support the charity, Prostate Cancer UK.

In the caption, he shared his thoughts, writing, “So gutted that I’m going to have to miss Sir Chris Hoy’s Tour de 4 this Sunday due to an injury. I was really looking forward to taking part and helping raise awareness and vital funds for prostate cancer research. Although I won’t be able to be there, I’ll be cheering on everyone taking part. Please continue to support Chris, the incredible riders and this brilliant cause.” He also wished everyone good luck.

Fans Show Their Support for John Bishop

Fans showed their support for Bishop in the post’s comment section. “Gutted for you mate, you were a rockstar but so sorry you’re missing out on this. ‘Til the next time,” his friend Peake wrote. Hoy also reacted to the post, writing, “Heal fast mate! So sorry we won’t get to see you but there’s always next year!”

Fans showed their support with reactions including, “We’re gutted! Wishing you a speedy recovery, John. Thank you so much for your support – maybe we’ll get to see you in the shirt in future,” “Wishing you a speedy recovery & hope to see you next year! Thank you so much for your support,” and “Awh John, sorry to hear that. Wishing you a speedy recovery.”

Bishop has been married to Melanie Cornall Bishop since 1993. His love for motorcycles began when his father-in-law died and left him a scooter. He later upgraded to a motorcycle. “I just thought ‘That looks like the proper way of doing it,” he told ITV, The Sun reports. “So I then took my test – which is something I’ve always wanted to do. And I thought ‘Well, I can make it part of my tour’, so I can travel on the motorbike and do gigs along the way. So that’s where it came from.”
