Dick Van Dyke, 100, Stuns Fans by Going Upside Down in Workout Video

Excuses are easy to find when it comes to working out, but Dick Van Dyke has little use for them. At 100, the legendary entertainer is still finding ways to keep moving and enjoy himself along the way. The comedy icon, who remains active on social media, shared another glimpse of his fitness routine on Friday, August 28.

Van Dyke posted an Instagram video showing himself strapped securely to an inversion table before rotating completely upside down.

The equipment uses gravity to stretch the spine and help relieve pressure. Van Dyke appeared relaxed as he rested upside down with his arms extended above his head.

“#DVD100 1/2 workout inversion table #keepmoving,” he captioned the impressive clip.

How Does Dick Van Dyke Stay Active at 100?

Van Dyke has long credited regular exercise with helping him maintain his mobility. He discussed his routine during a January 2025 appearance on Ted Danson’s podcast, “Where Everybody Knows Your Name.”

“Somebody said, ‘To what do you attribute your age and physical condition?’” Van Dyke recalled. “I’ve always exercised three days a week,” he continued, adding, “[My wife and I] go to the gym still, and I think that’s why I’m not stove up like my equals.”

His workouts include stretching, yoga and sit-ups in addition to gym sessions.

His latest video suggests he has also incorporated inversion exercises into that routine.

Ted Danson Remembers Dick Van Dyke Dancing at the Gym

Danson, 78, once belonged to the same Malibu gym as the “Mary Poppins” star. He recalled watching Van Dyke bring his signature energy to every workout.

“I would go to the same gym you did, and if I got there early enough, I would see you literally work out on some weight machine,” Danson said.

“And then, almost like you were doing circuit training, you would not walk to the next machine, you’d dance. You literally danced to the next machine.”

Van Dyke’s enthusiasm for movement has remained a defining part of his approach to aging. Even his brief Instagram caption carried a simple message for followers: “keep moving.”

Before reaching his milestone birthday, Van Dyke spoke with People at his Malibu home alongside his wife, Arlene Silver. “I feel really good for 100,” he said in November 2025.

Silver, 54, has frequently joined her husband during his workouts and creative projects. Van Dyke said his energy can vary from day to day, but his outlook remains remarkably steady.

“Sometimes I have more energy than others — but I never wake up in a bad mood,” he said before joking, “I feel like I’m about 13.”

What Does Dick Van Dyke Credit for His Longevity?

Beyond regular exercise, Van Dyke believes avoiding anger and hatred has helped him enjoy such a long life.

“I’ve always thought that anger is one thing that eats up a person’s insides — and hate,” he told People. “And I never really was able to work up a feeling of hate. I think that is one of the chief things that kept me going.”

The television icon also said he feels grateful rather than fearful when he considers the future.“When you expire, you expire,” he told the outlet. “I don’t have any fear of death for some reason. I can’t explain that, but I don’t. I’ve had such a wonderfully full and exciting life. That I can’t complain.”
