Ethan Suplee, who starred in “My Name is Earl” as well as the hit movie “Remember the Titans,” underwent a major transformation, revealing to The New York Post how he lost 250 pounds.
In 2001, Suplee had to order a specific scale after going to the doctors for years, where he was told “their scale couldn’t weigh me,” adding that “the scales in doctors’ offices back then went to 350 pounds. So I’d say I was 360, and I just had no idea.”
However, once he got the proper scale, his weight came in at 536 pounds. That’s when he knew he had to make a change. And today, Suplee has lost nearly half his body weight.
Ethan Suplee Says His Wife Is What Inspired Him To Begin His Weight Loss Journey
When Suplee met his now-wife, he had a realization that led to him beginning this major change.
“There were a lot of things in life she wanted to do that I was like, just physically incapable of doing, like going to the beach or on a hike,” he told The New York Post. “I have to also confront my weight, and I have more problems to fix.”
Suplee found a keto diet that worked well for him along with “consistent trainer-led workouts,” which ultimately led to him losing 250 pounds by 2005. And with that, he realized why diets weren’t working for him before.
“I learned how to sneak food and eat my way around the diets,” he said. “I was never super successful on any of these diets because I cheated every chance I got… and I got a lot heavier.”
“I think I clung to this hope that I could locate the problem in food that was causing me to be obese,” he added. “When I got super dialed into that, I was finally able to have some success with dieting where I would lose weight and I was able to maintain it.”
But, he still struggled with his confidence, adding that he still has to have regular check-ins with himself to stay positive.
“Once I’d lost some weight, I didn’t feel any better about myself,” he explained. “I would get on the scale and see I’ve lost 100 pounds. And then the next day I’d still feel (expletive)… and my sense of shame would come back and my low self-confidence.”
Ethan Suplee Looks Very Different Than He Did In ‘Remember The Titans’
Suplee portrayed Louie Lastik, an offensive lineman, in the hit movie ‘Remember The Titans,” which was based on the true story of a coach (played by Denzel Washington) who worked to integrate a Virginia high school football team.
Suplee’s character was just simply a good guy who got along with everyone, regardless of the color of their skin.
