Now that Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow has taken to her Instagram to clear the air about the viral dinner party she was hosting, we finally know who isn’t joining her. But somehow her guest list has grown even more.
A few days back, industry insider Matthew Belloni broke the news on his newsletter Puck about Paltrow hosting an ‘off-the-record’ dinner party for AI billionaire Sam Altman. Sharing the graphics, which appears to be a formal invitation from the actress-entrepreneur, Belloni wrote: “Invites are going out this week for a ‘private, off-the-record al fresco dinner at her home in honor of Sam Altman.’” (via People)
Fans chimed in, sharing the news and dropping their reactions.
Gwyneth Responded to the Frenzy on Her Instagram
Reacting to the massive social media frenzy about the viral dinner party, Paltrow took to Instagram, sharing parody invites to popular characters like M3GAN, Samantha Jones from Sex and the City, Shrek, Jessica Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Chanty Beluga. Notably, Chanty is a fictional character by comedian Courtney O’Donnell that has been gaining traction in recent weeks.
She poked fun by replacing the Sam Altman’s name from the invite with the fictional characters:
“Gwyneth Paltrow invites you to a private, off-the-record al fresco dinner at her home in honor of M3GAN” at “Gwyneth’s Home Amagansett, NY.”
She even added a mocking caption: “We’re serving swordfish burritos, cheddar foam lattes on request.”
Her comment section filled up with fans eagerly backing her up.
“No one trolls like Gwyneth,” a user wrote.
“Is this a ‘choose your own adventure’ dinner?” said another.
One fan chimed in, “You. Are. ICONIC.” another called her “WINNER.”
What Does This Parody Mean?
Of course, there has been no official confirmation from either of the parties about any such dinner. The Hollywood Reporter said it contacted representatives for both, and an OpenAI spokesperson declined to comment.
A reporter from BBC Verify, the broadcaster fact checking unit, wrote on X that the invite likely appeared to be generated using AI tools.
At best, it seems like there’s no such dinner happening.
This Is Not the First Time Gwyneth Has Engaged In Playful Trolling
During one of Coldplay’s concerts, a kiss cam caught an embarrassing moment between Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR chief Kristin Cabot. The clip quickly exploded online. To handle the situation at hand, Astronomer released a a tongue-in-cheek video starring Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin’s ex-wife as company’s “temporary spokesperson.” She answered make-believe questions in a corporate tone, then smartly moving on to promote firm’s software and an upcoming company event turning a disaster into viral, funny marketing moment.
What Projects Is Gwyneth Working On?
Apart from giving fans a good laugh with her Insta post, Paltrow is busy stepping into the lead character of Belle Burden’s best-selling divorce memoir, adapted by Netflix as Strangers. This will the mark 53-year-old actress return to lead roles nearly after a decade.
