Enjoying a successful career in show business since she was a child, Jodie Foster has surely enjoyed — and endured — plenty of notable experiences. That apparently includes facing a fierce predator.
The star opened up about what happened while talking to W Magazine for a video that was shared on Instagram.
In the caption of the post, W Magazine noted, “Jodie Foster wins for the best (worst?) scar story. Watch as the Oscar winner and star of the new film ‘Vie Privée (A Private Life)’ recounts the time she was mauled by a lion on the set of ‘Napoleon and Samantha.'”
Foster Was 8 or 9 When the Incident Occurred
“I have many scars,” Foster told W Magazine, before adding, “I was mauled by a lion when I was 8 and a half or 9.”
She stated, “The lion picked me up, shook me around, moved me horizontally, and then dropped me.”
“No, it wasn’t on film,” she added. “It was after the shot was over.”
“I was in shock, so I don’t really remember that much,” the star recalled. “I remember the event. I saw his mane come forward, and I had worked with the lions. But when he picked me up, he picked me up and then he moved me sideways, and shook me around. And so as he turned me back towards the whole camera crew, I saw the whole camera crew run, except sideways.”
She continued, “So, I saw them running sideways, taking all of their equipment with them, just like running away from me. And then I guess the trainer said, ‘Drop it.’ And then the lion dropped me out of his mouth.”
“I think that was probably the scariest thing that ever happened to me when I was making a movie,” she admitted. However, she then added, “I’m not sure I had time for fear, honestly.”
The actress also went on to explain, “After I got out of the hospital, and it was deemed that I was okay to work and everything, I went back to work with the same lion. But I was carrying a rooster, and the rooster was not used to working with this particular lion. And I saw the lion, like, turn his head and kind of go like this [she leaned forward], like maybe he was going to approach me or something, and I threw the rooster. And I ran!”
She noted, “I think that was like, that’s probably a scarier moment.”
Foster Was Left with Puncture Wounds & Scars
Getty“I had two perfect punctures in one side, and then two perfect punctures on the other, on my hip,” Foster also explained.
“But as the years have gone on and we get bigger, you know, [the scars are] like totally,” she then made diagonal hand gestures before adding, “Who even knows where they are anymore? So they kind of just move around.”
