Jonah Hill is opening up about a major life shift—one that’s centered entirely around family.
During a live taping of the “SmartLess” podcast on April 25, the “Outcome” star revealed why he and his wife, Olivia Millar, made the decision to leave Los Angeles behind and settle into a quieter life, according to People.
Hill Talks Leaving L.A.
“So real quick, before we go any further, my wife is here. My best friend. Shout-out to my beautiful wife, Liv. Where is she? Oh, what’s up, baby?” Hill shared from the stage at Avalon Hollywood, where he appeared alongside hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett.
The 42-year-old actor explained that the move happened three years ago, shortly after the couple welcomed their first child.
“So I live in a very small town in San Diego, and it’s amazing, and my neighbors are incredible people,” he said. “And when we had our first kid, we moved out there three years ago.”
For Hill, the decision was intentional. “I wanted to leave L.A. and raise a family outside of Los Angeles,” he continued per the outlet, noting that he still travels back for work when needed.
What stands out most about his new environment, he shared, is the sense of normalcy. “They never treat me weird or ask me about my job or anything,” Hill said of his neighbors.
He even highlighted one close friendship: “And my neighbor is one of my great friends, Dr. Sean… he never bothered me or was like, ‘Oh, what’s this person like?’”
Hill Grew Up in Los Angeles
While Hill has stepped away from the constant spotlight, his appreciation for his upbringing in Los Angeles hasn’t faded.
Reflecting on his childhood, he said, “L.A. was such a cool place to grow up in the ’90s because you could go skateboard downtown or you could sneak into a movie premiere or you could go sneak into a comedy club and see Chris Rock or something.”
He added that the era offered a unique mix of influences. “You had access to show business stuff, but you had access to punk and skating and graffiti and all the naughty stuff. And there was no internet. It was just so awesome.”
Now, his focus has clearly shifted. Hill recently confirmed that he and Millar are married and have welcomed their second child, expanding their growing family.
Despite his ongoing career—including writing, directing and starring in “Outcome”—he made it clear that family comes first.
Hill Recently Confirmed He Was a Dad of Two
“And I have two kids now. The only thing that could separate me from my family is the editing room,” Hill told Interview Magazine earlier in April. “I love the writing, I love the shooting, but editing… it’s like dessert every day. Even the problems are dessert.”
The comment underscores how selective he has become with his work, prioritizing projects that allow him to stay close to home.
By trading Hollywood’s fast-paced lifestyle for a quieter community, Hill seems to have found a balance that works.
Hill is notoriously private and the move to San Diego shows he has no intention of changing that anytime soon.
