Exes Kim Kardashian and Kanye West came together for an important night in their daughter North West’s growing music career. The reality TV mogul, 45, and Kanye, 49, both attended North’s first headlining concert at The Vic Theatre in Chicago on Saturday, September 5.
According to E! News, the former couple arrived separately but were each there to support the 13-year-old as she took another major step into the spotlight. Fan videos shared online show Kim watching from the VIP section, while the rapper was later seen filming his daughter as she performed onstage.
What Happened at North West’s First Headlining Concert?
North performed music from her debut EP, “N0rth4evr,” which she released in May, along with reportedly unreleased material. Kim documented some of the excitement on Instagram Stories.
One clip showed the packed crowd waiting for the performance to begin, while another captured fans jumping and cheering during the show.
She also shared a photo of a concertgoer holding a sign that read, “We’re from the North West side.”
The Chicago appearance marked North’s first time leading her own concert after steadily building her interest in music and live performance.
What Has North West Said About Her Music Career?
North has already made clear that music is more than a passing interest. Speaking with Dazed in August, she described performing her own material as “fun, relieving and exciting.” She also pushed back against the idea that she should wait until she is older to pursue music. North said the worst advice she has received was “to start my career later.”
“It’s like, nah, this is my hobby,” she explained, “this is what I like to do, this is what I wanna do with my life.”
Her parents appeared equally committed to showing up for the milestone.
How Have Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Handled Coparenting?
Kim and Kanye finalized their divorce in 2022 after nearly eight years of marriage. They also share sons Saint, 10, and Psalm, 7, and daughter Chicago, 8.
Their appearance at North’s concert was a rare instance of both parents attending the same public event. Kim has previously acknowledged that navigating a breakup with children involved is complicated.
“When you have kids, it’s definitely harder to leave than it is to stay,” she said during an October 2025 episode of “Call Her Daddy.” “And it changes everyone’s life forever.”
She also said she does not view their marriage as a failure, noting, “an over-a-decade relationship with four beautiful children is not a failure.”
What Has Kim Kardashian Said About Putting Her Kids First?
Kim has been candid about wanting her children to have strong relationships with both parents despite the divorce.
During a 2022 appearance on Angie Martinez’s “IRL Podcast,” she reflected on the example set by her own father, Robert Kardashian. “I had the best dad,” she said. “I have the best memories and the greatest experience. And that’s all I want for my kids. As long as they can have that, that’s what I would want for them.”
Saturday’s concert offered a glimpse of that effort in action, with Kim and Kanye setting their differences aside for a night centered entirely on North and her first major show.
