New details have emerged in the tragic loss of Martin Short’s beloved daughter Katherine, who died on February 23 from a gunshot wound that was ruled a suicide by the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office. She was 42.
Now, a new TMZ report says the outlet has learned that a note was found on the scene of Katherine’s death. So far, no details about the note’s contents are available. more details from law enforcement sources.
The report also says Katherine was found “behind a locked door” after a friend called police because no one had heard from her in “over 24 hours.” Wednesday’s “CBS Mornings” report featured audio from the 911 call regarding Katherine. In it, a dispatcher is heard saying responders are “unable to make entry into the bedroom.”

A “CBS Mornings” report on February 25 detailed how Short is reacting in the wake of his beloved daughter’s sudden death, saying he has postponed his comedy tour with friend and “Only Murders In the Building” costar Steve Martin.
The CBS report highlighted the immense amount of tragedy short has weathered, starting with the loss of his brother and both his parents before he’d reached the age of 20.
Despite the early setbacks, Short went on to forge a successful showbiz career, unforgettably starring as the eccentric wedding planner to Steve Martin’s doting dad in the “Father of the Bride” films, and the villainous Jack Frost in “The Santa Clause 3,” among many other projects.
Katherine was Short’s oldest child and only daughter. Short lost his wife Nancy, with whom he shared Katherine and their two other children, to ovarian cancer in 2010. Afterwards in a Larry King interview, he called work “the greatest healer” because the loss of a family member becomes more apparent at home.
Katherine Short’s Neighbor Spoke Out About Her Demeanor Leading Up to the Tragedy
Us Weekly reported on February 25 that Katherine’s neighbor told the outlet she showed “no indication of struggle” in the days leading up to her death. That neighbor, whom Us says wanted to stay anonymous but revealed they’d lived next to Katherine for 10 years, is quoted in the story as saying “Depression is often a silent and hidden killer.”
The report goes on to say the neighbor called Katherine “a private person, but quite outgoing,” before adding they’d occasionally “hear and see her laughing with friends” outside her home.
Katherine, who stayed out of the Hollywood spotlight as an adult, was a licensed social worker in private practice, according to E! News.
