Matthew Lawrence is opening up about his relationship with girlfriend Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas after almost three years together. According to the actor, the secret to their happiness is their very close friendship. “We’re just incredibly good friends. We get along,” he shared with Us Weekly. “We see eye to eye on so many things,”
The actor and the TLC singer seem to have found the real thing with one another, as Lawrence couldn’t help but gush about his girlfriend. “I love the way she thinks. I could go on and on,” he said.
Lawrence, who was married to former “DWTS” pro Cheryl Burke from 2019 until 2022, also revealed that his relationship with Chilli is different from anything else he’s experienced. “It’s a very healthy relationship, and that is a beautiful thing, because I don’t know if there’s a lot of those out there,” he shared.
How Matthew Lawrence & Chilli Make it Work
Lawrence was candid about his relationship with Chilli, explaining that even when there’s tension between them, they get through it with a better understanding. “The things that come out of it are always better results, and we always treat each other with this incredible respect,” the actor said.
He also explained that there are certain boundaries that neither of them have crossed. “It’s really hard to look at somebody the same way again after they’ve, like, really said some things to you in a nasty way,” Lawrence said. “So, we just don’t go there with each other. We resolve things.”
For her part, Chilli hasn’t held back when it comes to her feelings about her man. During a 2024 style interview with People, the R&B star shared her favorite look of Lawrence’s.
“Matthew is beautiful from head to toe to me, but I [especially] love his clean face,” she said. “So when he sheds that beard he’s growing out and [wears] this jacket that he has … It looked so good. I just wanted to bite him.”
Lawrence & Chilli Get Along Even When Working Together
Lawrence, along with his brothers Joey and Andrew, have embarked on a new venture together in the form of a graphic novel. “The Lawrence Brothers Detective Agency” is the title of the project, and Chilli was happy to lend a hand.
“She [is] real, super supportive of us and me,” Lawrence shared with Us Weekly. “When I brought her this … she was down.”
Lawrence’s brother Andrew agreed, saying that Chilli has “such a big heart and [was] willing to help out.”
