Patricia Heaton Has a Strong Message for Critics of Her Gray Hair

What do Sarah Jessica Parker and Salma Hayek, as well as Andie MacDowell have in common? They are all famous actresses who have embraced their naturally gray hair. The same can be said for Patricia Heaton.

Granted, although the former “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “The Middle” star has accepted her silver strands, not everyone is as keen on her aesthetic choice, and they’ve made their opinion known. In response, Heaton has shared a strong message about her gray hair and its critics.

Patricia Embraces Acceptance, Not Boxed Hair Dye

Heaton hopped onto Instagram on Wednesday, May 27, to post a video that addressed the hair-related situation. In the recording that sees the star sitting in a vehicle and talking directly to the camera, she points to an image of a comment from a social media user that says, “You’re too young for grey old lady hair.”

“OK, regarding that,” Heaton begins while referring to the comment. “Some of you seem very concerned about the silver in my hair. But let me just say, there are some things that come along in life that I’ve just decided to embrace. And that doesn’t include boxed hair dye.”

“So, yeah. The people in my life love me no matter what color my hair is,” she added before noting that “maybe we could all use a little more of just accepting what is and being grateful.”

In the caption, she wrote, “Just sayin’… #GreyHairDontCare #SilverHair #GrayHairJourney #AgingAuthentically #SilverFox.”

The post sparked plenty of replies from Heaton’s followers, with one person writing, “Your hair color is 🔥. I embraced my color 5 years ago and I never got more compliments on my hair than I do now. Most people asking if it is natural! 😂”

“You look amazing and I think your hair looks gorgeous and healthy but the color also looks great on you 😍,” another person added. “So sad that people need to post their negative opinions and glad it rolls off your back!”

A third fan wrote, “Love you and your hair color. Yes. We need to accept and love our friends the way they are.”

Other Stars Have Shown Off Silver Hair

Along with Heaton and the other celebrities already mentioned above, there are even more stars who aren’t hiding their gray hair and are instead showing off their silver tresses.

“You might have noticed that lately gray hair is on a redemption tour,” Glamour noted in January 2019. “You could even call it cool — so much so that women are now seeking it out advice on how to grow it out instead of frantically googling ‘Does tweezing a gray hair really mean that three grow back in its place?’ (For the record, the answer to this is no.)”

Glamour also brought up the fact that “[c]elebrities … have played a big role in this shift.” That includes Jessica Biel who, at 36 years old, showed up to the 2018 Golden Globes “with a few subtle gray streaks in the front of her updo.” Following that, “at the 2018 Grammys, Katie Holmes [who was 40 at the time] had a few silver slivers peeking through parts of her dark hair.”

That’s not to overlook Chrissy Teigen, who “even tweeted about her grays,” per Glamour, writing, “‘I have a skunk like streak of gray hair and I’m actually very into it. My Cruella dreams are coming true!”
