Patrick Mahomes Reaches Out to Reporter After His Father’s Passing
KC Sports Network reporter Tucker Franklin took a moment to share how Mahomes reached out to him during a heartbreaking time in his life. When his father, Doug Franklin, suddenly died, Mahomes showed compassion and reached out. Tucker shared the story on X on Sunday, September 6.
Tucker posted the message exchange between himself and Mahomes. It shows that Mahomes messaged him, writing, “Praying for you and your family, man. Chiefs and chiefskingdom is with you.” To which Tucker responded, “Man, thank you so much for reaching out. Means more than you’ll know. I appreciate you.”
Tucker praised Mahomes in his post on X, writing, “I think it’s easy to wonder if the quarterback of your favorite team is actually a good guy. We don’t have to wonder about that in KC.”
Fans have flooded the post with reactions, praising Mahomes for remaining humble and kind. “Just proves no matter who you are, it doesn’t take but a few minutes to be kind to someone who is grieving. Thank you #15 for being a great leader on and off the field,” a comment reads.
“He’s just that; Mahomes is a genuine human being,” another person shared. And a third person wrote, “He’s the best. Sorry about your dad.”
Tucker shared that his father had died in a post on X on August 31. “My dad, Doug Franklin, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away,” he wrote. “He was a great father, phenomenal husband, and an amazing man. The only thing he loved more than the Kansas City Royals was his family. He will be greatly missed.” Tucker said he was devastated.
Patrick Mahomes Embraces His Tenth Season
Fans are excited for this season, and Mahomes has returned strong after suffering from an ACL injury in Week 15 last year. Head coach Andy Reid has commented on Mahomes, telling reporters, “As far as our roster goes, there’s a very good chance that Patrick will go ahead and start unless something were to come up here in the next couple days,” Bleacher Report states. The team’s season opener is against the Denver Broncos.
“Most likely he’ll be the guy that’s out there,” Reid added.
In July, Mahomes discussed his injury and the work he put in during his recovery. “The process isn’t over,” Mahomes told reporters, People reports. “It’ll be something I’ll probably be dealing with the next few years of my career and throughout the rest of my career. But I feel comfortable now being able to go out there and run the offense the way the offense is supposed to be run.”
Reid previously praised Mahomes on his recovery journey, saying, “He’s been working so hard that you have a pretty good feel that he’s in a good place. We’ve got to see how things go and not make any predictions about [Mahomes playing in Week 1].”
