Hollywood paid tribute to Rob Reiner on Sunday night with an honor that brought the room to its feet. Rob, who was 78 when he died in December 2025, posthumously won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series at the Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday, September 6, for his performance in “The Bear.”
The award came nearly nine months after the actor and filmmaker’s death and marked his third career Emmy win. As his name was announced inside the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the audience rose for a lengthy standing ovation.
Why Did Rob Reiner Win an Emmy for ‘The Bear’?
Rob earned the honor for playing Albert Schnurr during the fourth season of the acclaimed FX on Hulu comedy.
His performance in the episode “Tonnato” earned him his eighth career Emmy nomination.
Albert was introduced as a business consultant who worked with Ebra, played by Edwin Lee Gibson, as he tried to strengthen The Original Beef’s walk-up operation. The character later helped inspire plans to franchise the business.
Rob appeared in three episodes of the season, making the role one of his final on-screen performances.
He faced a stacked field that included Michael J. Fox, Brett Goldstein, Hamish Linklater, Christopher McDonald and Connor Storrie.

Rob was best known as a director of films including “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally,” “This Is Spinal Tap” and “Misery.”

“The Bear” also found a quiet way to honor Rob through his final storyline. In the season finale, Ebra calls Albert after receiving approval to move forward with his franchise plans.
Their conversation ends with Ebra telling him, “As you wish.” The line nods to “The Princess Bride,” the beloved 1987 film Rob directed.
The appearance took on added meaning following his death, particularly after viewers had responded warmly to Albert and hoped the character might return in a future season.
How Many Emmys Did Rob Reiner Win?
Sunday’s award brought Rob’s career Emmy total to three. He won his first two Emmys for “All in the Family,” for his performance as Michael Stivic in 1974 and again in 1978.
The posthumous honor arrived after a devastating period for his family. Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Brentwood home in December 2025. Their son Nick Reiner, 32, has been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with their deaths and has pleaded not guilty.
Nearly nine months later, the Emmy ceremony turned the focus back to Rob’s work, with an entire theater standing to recognize one of Hollywood’s most enduring careers.
