New details continue to emerge about the tragic deaths of beloved filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife of 36 years, Michele Singer. On Sunday, December 14, the couple was found dead at their Brentwood home in California by their daughter, Romy Reiner.
A homicide investigation is currently underway, and it is believed their son, Nick Reiner, is responsible for their deaths.

A spotlight has also been shone on their private family life and the bond the couple shared with their three children, Jake, Nick, and Romy. In addition to the positive stories are tales of trouble, with Nick’s struggles with addiction being highlighted.
“They were such a tight-knit family. They did everything together,” a source close to the family shared, People reports. However, “they could never reach stability with Nick. They tried everything — giving him space, keeping him close — but his struggles are so deep. It’s just a parent’s worst nightmare.”
Another insider revealed, “They were such lovely people, and tried in every way to help their son,” People reports.
Nick Reiner’s Troubled Past
GettyNick’s destructive path began as a teenager- He has spoken about his struggles with addiction, which ultimately left him homeless at one point, in an interview with People in 2016. In promotion for the film “Being Charlie,” which he co-wrote with his father, Nick discussed his own life.
“It’s not my life, but I went to a lot of these places, so I had a lot of these stories,” Nick shared of the film. “I was homeless in Maine, I was homeless in New Jersey, I was homeless in Texas. I spent nights on the street.” He added that he had spent “weeks” on the street and that the experience was unpleasant.
At the time of the interview, Nick had been hopeful about the future. He shared his desire to remain sober and off the streets. “When I was out there, I could’ve died. It’s all luck. You roll the dice, and you hope you make it,” he said.
His comments suggested a positive outlook and the realisation that he had been given a second chance. However, before the killings, Nick was back to living in his parents’ guesthouse. Things took a turn for the worse when Rob, Michele, and Nick attended Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party the night before they were killed.
