Ronda Rousey to Fight Hollywood Star & Fans Are Excited

Mixed martial arts icon Ronda Rousey has announced she is set to return to the cage almost a decade after her last fight.

Rousey, 39, last fought in December 2016 when she suffered a brutal TKO defeat at the hands of Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her last fight before that was a November 2015 KO loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia. Rousey previously had an impressive 12-0 unbeaten record.

Rousey took to her Instagram account to announce her competitive return to her 16.8 million followers — and she’ll be fighting another previously inactive MMA legend who, like her, has since transitioned to a career in Hollywood.

Ronda Rousey has confirmed she’ll be fighting Gina Carano on May 16.

Rousey’s Instagram post features details about the bout, which will be held in Los Angeles, California, under Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions banner.

It will air exclusively on Netflix and comprise five rounds, each lasting five minutes.

Carano, 43, is recognized as a pioneer and foundational figure in women’s MMA, while Rousey is frequently described as one of the most influential and iconic figures in the sport’s history. Carano is known for her attacking Muay Thai and Gaidojutsu style, which will contrast with Rousey’s judo. The meeting between the pair will, therefore, undoubtedly make for an interesting contest.

Since her fighting days first came to an end, Texan Carano has become known for her roles in movies like 2016’s “Deadpool” and “Kickboxer: Vengeance,” as well as television show “The Mandalorian” (per IMDb).

Californian Rousey, meanwhile, has gone on to become a WWE superstar and has appeared in movies like 2018’s “Mile 22” and 2019’s “Charlie’s Angels” (per IMDb).

Rousey’s caption continued, “And we’re partnering with the fighter-first promotion @mostvaluablepromotions as well as the baddest streamer on the planet @netflix! This is for all MMA fans past, present and future. More to come… much more ;).”

Jake Paul commented on the post, writing, “Surreal. I started taking judo because of you. Now we put on the first ever MMA event together on Netlfix [sic]. Welcome back to the biggest and the baddest ever.”

Rousey’s fellow WWE superstar Charlotte Flair also commented, saying, “Let’s go woman.”

Another WWE superstar, Nikkita Lyons, wrote, “THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY!!! GO RONDA!!!❤️‍🔥👊🏼”

Fellow MMA star and judoka Pauline Macias wrote, “I can’t wait for you to show the world how hard you’ve been working!!!!! Here we go, BABs!!!! @rondarousey 🤙🏽💪🏽👊🏽”
