A British actress known best for her roles in sitcoms, soap operas, and the iconic sci-fi series “Doctor Who” has passed away at the age of 76 (per Daily Mail).
Cheryl Hall was born on July 23, 1950 in London, England. She passed away very recently, although the exact date and cause are currently unknown.
She played Shirley Johnson in the British sitcom “Citizen Smith” from 1977 until 1979, Sadie in police procedural “The Bill” from 1984 until 1988, Christine in soap opera “Eastenders” for eight 1988 episodes, and, perhaps most memorably, Shirna in the “Carnival of Monsters” serial in 1973’s tenth season of the aforementioned “Doctor Who.”
In the 1970s, she also appeared in television shows like sitcom “On the Buses,” police procedural “Z-Cars,” and police procedural “Dixon of Dock Green.” All of her movie appearances came in the ’70s, too, and included comedy spy movie “To Catch a Spy” and British comedy “No Sex Please, We’re British.”
In the 1980s, other television credits included anthology series “Tales of the Unexpected” and mystery series “Poirot.”
The 1990s saw her appear in the likes of sitcom “As Time Goes By,” drama series “London’s Burning,” detective series “Inspector Morse,” children’s series “Grange Hill,” and medical drama “Casualty.”
Beyond that, her credits include crime drama series “Silent Witness,” police procedural “Waking the Dead,” and romantic drama series “William and Mary.”
Her former partner, singer and actor Robin Askwith, announced her passing on X.

In his tribute to Cheryl Hall, her former partner Robin Askwith wrote on X, “What a force of nature she was…”
He added, “A really innovative working.class charismatic actress coming out of the late 60s,” “Brave in every way,” “And now I have the sad news she has passed away…,” and “I am devastated…she was my beginning…”
Askwith concluded with, “RIP Cheryl Hall.”
Tributes flooded in underneath his post, with one X user writing, “Oh no how sad. I used to work with her mum in the early 80s. RIP Cheryl.”
Another X user commented, “Oh that is such sad news. I loved her in Citizen Smith & in so many other shows..Rooms, As Time Goes By…she lit up the screen with energy.”
Someone else replied, “Sad to learn. She was a fiesty Councillor in her latter years. Condolence.”
However, X wasn’t the only place fans left tributary messages for Hall. When news of her passing starting circulating on other social media platforms, fans flocked to have their say.

Instagram quickly became awash with tributes to Cheryl Hall, following the sad news of her passing.
The Doctor Who Appreciation Society posted a picture of her in “Doctor Who” and listed some of her additional screen credits.
Underneath that post, one Instagram user wrote, “RIP…she was super as Shirna.”
Another “Doctor Who” fan commented, “Cheryl’s is always such a memorable performance from the original run. Thank you for bringing us fans joy ✨.”
Somebody else said, “No! I loved her as Shirley when I was a kid. I even wanted a necklace like the one wolfie gave her and I got a plastic one. RIP lovely lady.”
“Awwwwwv no way bless her heart an absolutely amazing actress,” wrote another fan of Hall’s.
Finally, one individual commented, “This is such sad news. Terrific actress. Thanks for being you Cheryl.”
In addition to her relationship with Robin Askwith in the early 1970s, Hall had also been married to British actor Robert Lindsay from 1974 until 1980. As far as we are aware, Hall did not have any children.
