Toussaint’s management team also announced his death in a heartbreaking statement shared on Instagram.

“It is with deep sadness that we formally announce the passing of Trevor A Toussaint,” the statement read, as reported by The Independent.

“His family wish to thank you for your well wishes and support as they take this time to privately come to terms with their great loss of an enigmatic, loving father, husband, grandfather, uncle and friend.”

The actor starred in a popular Channel 4 soap from 2018 to 2022, playing shopkeeper Walter Deveraux across 147 episodes.

Following his death, tributes poured in from colleagues, friends, and fans—all paying tribute to the great artist and his impact on screen and behind the scenes.

Co-Stars Share Heartfelt Tributes

Kellé Bryan, who played Walter’s on-screen daughter Martine Deveraux, wrote a lengthy post for him. Her heartfelt tribute was a fitting goodbye to their bond. “Been finding it hard to find the words to pay tribute to this man @trevoratoussaint. Gone, but has left such an imprint on my heart,” she wrote.

“I had the privilege to represent him as his agent for over 20 years. He played @jacqui_boats, and I’s father in @hollyoaksofficial, which was a dream to be part of the legacy of the first black family on the show.”

Bryan’s post also highlighted Toussaint’s impact on representation in the entertainment industry.

“Trevor started acting in the 70’s, a time when black actors were predominantly cast as criminals. He wore his waist length dreds with pride for over 10 year’s fighting against every stereotype. Once asked to cut them in order to book a lucrative role, he forthrightly said ‘no’. He broke many boundaries and made a pathway for others. RIP TT.”

A ‘Gentleman’ Remembered by Friends

Mirror reported that Richard Blackwood, who appeared alongside Toussaint on “Hollyoaks,” wrote, “My very first scene was with T and he made me bring my A game! We were friends from that day on and off-screen! You will be missed big bro. RIP sir.”

Jessica Fox, who plays Nancy Osborne on the soap, added, “Very sad to read this, he was such a gentleman and I was fascinated by the stories of his incredible life.”

Former castmates Nikki Sanderson and Ricky Norwood also paid tribute. Fans, too, are heartbroken.

One fan wrote: “I loved his character so much! When I first saw his picture I thought it might be news that he was coming back to the show. 😢”

Another fan shared: “May he Rest in peace 🥺 was thinking about his Hollyoaks character not long ago so sad”

A Lasting Legacy On and Off Screen

Beyond “Hollyoaks,” Toussaint appeared in a range of television projects, including “Death in Paradise,” “Dreaming Whilst Black,” and “Sulphur and White.”

According to the UK Sun, “Hollyoaks” confirmed his exit in 2022 and publicly thanked him for his contributions to the series.

Over a career spanning decades, Toussaint was widely respected not only for his performances but also for his role as a mentor and trailblazer, helping create opportunities for others. His influence on British television and the people he worked with continues to resonate.
