Prince Harry secretly met with another member of the royal family during his latest trip to the U.K. Meghan Markle’s husband flew to his home country earlier this month and reunited with his father, King Charles, after nearly two years.
According to Hello!, the Duke of Sussex privately visited Kensington Palace to “personally pay his respects and offer condolences” to Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent. His wife, Katharine, the Duchess of Kent, passed away on September 4 at the age of 92.
“He has loved catching up with family, friends and colleagues,” a source told the outlet.
The source added that “the whole trip felt like a real success for everyone involved.”
Prince Harry’s Trip to the U.K. is Full of Hope
GettyRoyal fans have been anticipating Harry’s return to the U.K. to reunite with his family. So when he arrived at Clarence House on September 10, all eyes were on him.
Less than an hour after his private meeting with King Charles, royal experts pointed out that the visit could mark the first step toward reconciliation between father and son.
“It’s a massive step in the right direction,” Queen Elizabeth’s former spokeswoman Ailsa Anderson told PEOPLE. “It’s a building of trust.”
While Prince Harry’s reunion with King Charles was seen as a hopeful step forward, royal insiders warn that full reconciliation may still be a long way off.
“It shows the way forward,” a source told the outlet. “It is a good starting point.”
Prince Harry Hopes to Bring His Kids to the U.K.

Speaking with The Guardian, Harry admitted he’d like to spend more time in his home country and bring his children one day.
“Yes I would,” he told the outlet. “This week has definitely brought that closer.”
And while he won’t talk much about the King, the outlet noted that Harry seems to suggest he wants to see him more often,
Over the coming year, he said, “the focus really has to be on my dad.”
Following his trip to the U.K. and Ukraine, Harry returned to Montecito, California, to be with Megan, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet.
On Saturday, September 20, the couple attended the One805LIVE! concert, held at Kevin Costner’s oceanside estate in California. The event raised funds in support of Santa Barbara County’s first responders.
